C5 X7 Tourer roof bar location on rails

Post by C5_Jack »

Hello All

I've been through the owners manual on the best fixing points for roof bars on the roof rail but I cannot find any information in it.

Is there a recommended location for fitting roof bar on the roof rail?

The roof rail I have are the Thule Edge WingBar.

Cheers

Jack

Jack- there are a myriad number of accessories for the Tourer - depending on what you want to fit. Assuming you have the standard longitudinal bars fitted on the roof, there are ski boxes, bike kits or the standard aluminium bars that can be attached. Each of the Citroen kits have specific fitting instructions depending on what it is you are fitting. Some are accessories that fit onto the ally bar kit in picture 1, others have other fixing kits to attach.

I have a pair of Citroen roof bars which quickly clip to the roof rails. If you look along the inside faces of the roof rails there are four pairs of indents. Presumable these mark the suggested places for the bars to be fitted. I find they fit there the easiest, but then I move them wider apart since I usually carry ladders.

I also use approximately the position of the indents to position the cross bars for my roof box.

I have used the same bars for several different roof boxes on both my current X7 and my previous Mk1. My current rood box is enormous, frankly too large in fact. It also has recesses for the bars to go across. This means that the floor of the roof box overhangs the bars at either end and also between the bars. I tried moving the bars as far apart as I dared within the limits of adjustment to reduce the overhang but, because the rails are curved, it nearly touched the roof.

So that left me with a problem of finding a sweet spot where it didn't touch the roof and didn't sit too high with too much overhang. And I thought I had found it. Now this is where the cautionary element of this tale can be told. The gap that I had left between the floor of the roof box and the car roof looked fine and most times it was - until it rained on our trip back to the UK.

The gap that had been fine when dry collected a film of water and the wind blew through this causing cavitation which lifted part of the lacquer. When I first saw this white dust I thought it was mud or something caught there. I was mortified when I realised what had happened.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Was this a Citroen / Thule recommended accessory or an aftermarket one as a matter of interest? - Only I note they decline all responsibility on their accessories site for non-approved roof kits.

They were from Halfords I think, many, many years ago. And I did have to modify them to fit on the fatter X7 roof rails. But like I said, the problem was the recess that the roof bars sit under. It just brings the roof box too close to the car. Oh, and it's just so effin' huge!

Does anyone recognise this original PSA part number of this roof rack? 16 715 530 80 and will this fit the C5X7 sedan 2014 series.
If not, what roof bar/rack will fit the Citroën C5X7 2014 Sedan HDi 2.2L.
The width from (passenger to driver's side) is 104 cm wide. Curved roof.
The fitting system is a "Fixpoint as per picture.

No, that's not a recognised part for the X7.

If you want official accessory part numbers, pop up the VIN for this vehicle along with:-

What it is you want:
Horizontal roof bars, bike carrier, luggage box etc.

You'll need to upgrade your membership though, as we have to pay for parts data, but it will cover you for up to 2 years of parts requests and parts diagrams. Details below:

Or have a look at the range from Thule, as Citroen often use some of these models. I am having an issue finding any roof bars alone which are recommended for the X7 Saloon.

Or take a look at the Citroen European Accessories site here:
