C5 X7 2.0 Hdi Oil level sensor

I knew it was too good to be true. After several months of trouble free motoring, I was driving happily along when I got a warning about low oil level, and the service light came on.

Oil level checked when I got home and it was spot on, exactly where it had been since I changed the oil some 4000 miles ago.

Now, every time I start the car it comes up with the low oil warning and the service light illuminates.

My assumption is that the level sensor is on the fritz and needs to be changed. My car is a 2008 X7, with a 136hp 2.0Hdi engine.

Where is the level sensor situated, and is it an easy enough job to do?

You have the DW10BTED4 138 engine..

This is a combined oil temperature and level sensor, item 9, part 1131G9, £76.88 inc. VAT from Citroen. You'll also need to replace the cooper seal (item 75), part: 698870, £0.41p inc. VAT.

Access:

Disconnect the battery - follow the procedure here:

BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure

Remove: The clip (1) The air entry union (2)	Disconnect the connector (at "a"). Remove: The oil pressure sensor (4) The seal (3)

Refitting:

CAUTION: Always replace the seal (3).

Fit:

• The seal (3) (new)
• The oil level sensor - The oil temperature (4); Tighten to 2,7 ± 0,2 daN.m
• Connect the connector (at "a").

Refit:

• The air entry union (2)
• The clip (1)

CAUTION: Perform the operations to be carried out following reconnection of the battery. (refer to relevant section of the battery conneciton procedure above.

Reconnect the battery following the remainder of procedure linked to in this post after you have completed the work.

I have a feeling there was a recall for incorrect oil level reporting many years ago.

OK - I've just realised that the air entry pipe that you have to remove has gone missing.
I suspect the garage that replaced the cam belt forgot this part when they reassembled the engine.
I can't see how you can actually loose it when installed

Do you have part number and price for this, I need to have a discussion with them!

It you are referring to the Air Intake Pipe below (item 3), it is part: 144058 and £54.34 inc. VAT.

It is only secured by a clip (4), so could fall out of the connecting pipe I guess - mine is held on with a cable tie!

I can concur that my lads C5 X7 2010 2.0 Hdi has 2 cable ties holding it in place

A look through eBay found just one air inlet for my car, for the grand sum of 16 quid

It's now been cleaned up, and looks like new, so if/when it very stops raining I'll fit with some extra cable ties for security
