09 C5 x7 2.0hdi Auto Driveshaft replacement
Hi, Both side CV joints have become noisy recently, I am thinking of changing the entire driveshafts. Does the Auto box loose much oil when the shafts are pulled? Any tips or advice welcome.

Re: 09 C5 x7 2.0hdi Auto Driveshaft replacement
Are you absolutely sure it’s the driveshafts?
Are you getting a clunking when pulling away and braking, or when going over a pot hole or dip in the road?
I had this in the driver side and it was the lower bush on the Front Pivot Support, which I’ve highlighted in blue.
They don’t sell the bush separate, but these can be ordered for about a £10 and replaced. When on the 4 post lift, the mechanic could lever the pivot back and forward with a struggle, and we could then see the movement and here the clunk as it moved back and forward against the metal. So with the weight of the car on he road it was more pronounced.
If it’s not this and you are sure it’s the driveshaft, let me know if you want the replacement procedure. If so, pop your VIN up here for me.

Hi Marc, I have a pronounced 'clack clack clack' when the wheels have a fair amount of 'turn' such as tee junctions and car parks. I am sure its CV joints, both sides too! Its a hydro car, I forgot to mention. The VIN VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

It the car has the AM6 box the oil doesn't come out when the driveshafts are removed, the sealing arrangement is different to the older stuff.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

Re: 09 C5 x7 2.0hdi Auto Driveshaft replacement
If you had a manual gearbox on the X7 , you would need to drain the gearbox, but not on an AM6 Auto.
Actually Jim, will you be doing this yourself or taking it to a garage? - as it will save me not having to type up the procedure if taking it to a garage to be done.

I will be doing this myself. I have changed driveshafts on several different cars, But never on a hydro Auto C5. Is it the usual bottom ball joint and track rod end to split or does it need more room? Also the support bearing. Does this unclamp or is it a tight fit?

Make sure to loosen the LDS cap before lifting her up. This will help prevent the possibility of the reservoir rupturing from an overpressure issue. There are new stickers on this forum to help prevent this from happening;

Re: 09 C5 x7 2.0hdi Auto Driveshaft replacement
Jim, Here's the guide on doing the Driveshaft Operation on your C5 X7 with AM6. Note, if you don't have Diagbox to depressurise the hydraulic circuit, let me know - each axle can be manually depressurised independently using a valve - let me know if you need this info.

Thats Great Marc, Thank you for your time. If you could post up the depressureisation procedure using a valve, That would set me up to do the job. Does the system repressurise ok?
I need to make a hub holding tool too.

Re: 09 C5 x7 2.0hdi Auto Driveshaft replacement
I’ve just remembered that I did a recent post on the depressurisation procedure - which also includes the procedure to manually depressurise, so just read through this post, illustrated and follow just the relevant part, ignoring the rest as it is incorporated into another procedure for draining and refilling the hydraulic system

Just one last ask... Do you have part numbers for the Low friction bolts and nuts 1,4 and 5?

Re: 09 C5 x7 2.0hdi Auto Driveshaft replacement
I had a feeling that was coming
Part no: 693684 lower ARB nut. (5)
Part no: 693665 (4)
Unfortunately, I cannot for the life of me find the nut for item (1), which actually secures the suspension strut to the lower pivot. As you can see, in the following parts diagrams, the whole Pivot support (B) does not show the nut fixing - but it can be seen on the strut diagram - only there is no nut sold separately, so I wonder if this is part of the strut ....
Have a check with the local dealer when you ask about the other part numbers. At least you can show him the diagram, and I’m sure he will be impressed that you have the info.
