Andy, do you want to try with my ISOs? Some of these from some sources have been known to fail. Let me know and I'll supply you with the links.

OK! well i got 7.02 installed, on both xp laptops! note this was on a second go one one, i did use the removal tool and then start again on that one but the other went straight through

exact process that i have learned and this is on xp!

- install all drivers you can, Lan and Wifi are key / you can get away with just chipset and your lan/wifi drivers if needed.
- On your lan connection, sent an ip v4 address that isn't on your network to break your internet something like 10.230.230.203 will work nicely.
- your wifi should not be connected to anything and disabling (network settings) it should not cause an issue.
- turn off your firewall
- install the version of virtual clone drive that you got with your iso.
- mount the install cd on your laptop and only install it from there.
- after you install the initial version reboot your pc, close the license screen and do not fill it in.
- when its rebooted, license it as per the instructions on your iso
- reboot again assuming that stage works
- install an update then reboot again
- load the diagbox, let the update install and then reboot
- install the next update and reboot as above, follow that process until all updates are done.

all that said it does look like the update has failed! but it is an any version 7 to 7.57 so it may be that it takes a while. - this just needed crashing out of its working fine now on both laptops. next post is the issue list!

I think you have your work cut out there!

I would start with the CAN wiring - if this is out it can impact on all the data streams being sent to the other systems.

The method above also worked for Windows 7 32 bit.
Exactly the same process on a Windows install that had previously failed and had to be cleaned with the tool.

C1196 Rear axle average movement <-- I had that when height sensor linkage was disconnected (only on front axle because right front sensor linkage was "faulty").

Awesome thanks, I am trying to find incidents where people have seen these codes. I am thinking I will replace all 4 which allows me to check them. I think I am one or two fuses down too. One goes to the lane departure system. The pre/post relay is dead glow plugs.

From what I saw already I think that the can bus feeding power so some parts where it shouldn't be, I think one is the damping ECU (need to find that fuse).

There are more detailed descriptions, but I have a sick wife and 2 rambunctious Kidd's, so once all 3 are in bed I am going to head out with one of the many laptops that are now working lol.

Ignore the glow plug one Andy - we ALL have this - standard fault on the X7 Diesels by all accounts.

So I went into the in depth descriptions for each fault:

First off I will be buying a new car battery tomorrow.

Radio
- Telematics ECU not recognised - "Important, ECU present on the vehicle but configured absent
- Radio (audio ECU) is funked. (no coms)

Drive and suspension:
- Variable damping ecu, Rear RH stepper motor supply - seems to only be an issue when battery is under 12v
- Variable damping ecu, C1184 Reference heights not programmed (no idea what to do about this)
- Electronically managed suspension, no coms to BSI
- Injection/ignition, fit new glow plugs and clear fault, air mass fault looks incorrect. - these do need doing it takes 6 runs with the glow plugs for the car to start between -2 and +5 looks to be a nightmare but its worth it for an easy start.

Sensors
Lane departure warning system - short to earth (anyone know where this ecu is?)
Tire pressure LH front - not transmitting (clear under inflation ecu and retest to resolve other issues).

Your AFIL ECU (LDWS) is item 1 in the diagram Andy.
AFIL ECU.PNG
The suspension reference heights are pre-programmed into the ECU, so should be there unles there is a communication issue with the ECU so that they cannot be obtained. They won't just disappear so to speak.

I'll start with the battery I guess. its so much easier to do this sort of thing when you don't need the car, when I had my Activa I also had 3 spares (2 Activas and a v6). I get the feeling some of these issues are water ingress (especially as the suspension errors after driving it in heavy rain) or cables that are shorting to the body. Doesn't help that i have an aversion to being under cars since i accidentally knocked a BX 4x4 Gti off its stands some 18 years ago, and some "traveller" toerag's stole my full car length tipping car ramps...

Any one got experience of taking out the wheel liners, are they better designed than the old ones or so all the mountings still fall apart and require angle grinding out?

well the rear pas side ram is being replaced, both the local citroen garage and Halfords said that its leaking (although there is no fluid on it just an area were i removed the surface dirt whil checking it my self. I am letting them replace if incase it helps with the droppong at the back, although i do now know what that is.

my HP pump doesnt always start when it should. i have had a few times when the car has sat for 45 minutes and the pump wont kick in and a rock of the car and a restart of the engine after the bsi goes off line and it comes straight up. this is happening intermittently and ive has it wheree ive been driving its got low and then there is no pump action, rock the car restart and the car come up and the pump is audioble. the pimp also sometimes runs intermittently where it starts then struggles then either fails or behaves normaly. i am taking the pump out and cleaning the motor out and changing the fluid. my gut says that will resolve it.

the most anoying thing to happen is when it was on mot they reset the headlights, this they did in the wrong suspension height, and citroen who looked at it today say its now not aligned correctly.

I am fixing these issues and then the car is going on ebay unfortunatly. it looks like i am finaly getting a company car.

Nothing a bit of TLC probably won't fix. It's often a matter of educating third party garages about hydraulic Citroens - and never letting your car out of your sight.

So an update, the bump has 2 connectors one on top on another, the top one is brown and green, the green cable is snapped off just after the connector. These at a guess are can bus or data, if the brown one is making a connection and the lower power supply pair are located right then the cars pump kicks in and if they are maintained there are no issues at all with the cars suspension. If the power supply is not located right and the brown cable is properly connected then you get an error on the dash saying the suspension has failed max speed 55mph. This looks like my main issue. I need to get a connector for the data pair and splice in the cable. The power I am not sure about, it needs to be shoved towards the wing to make a good connection. I'll be honest I won't miss this car when it's gone I've done 5k in it and it's not been a great experience. What is annoying is the guy who sold it knew about all of these issues and said nothing, if I had had known I could behave sorted them out quite quickly.
