P0266 C4II 1.6 HDI

Post by andrax »

Hi all,
Does anyone have experience with this code?
Basically I am having a really bad cold start (sometimes almost impossible to start) and the engine knocks on low revs with some last. At high revs it runs great and there is no power loss at all. When warm it has a good idle but still knocks on low revs under load.
I have made everything possible with diagbox v7.57 from new coding to calibration and over 2 hours driving with recommended procedure to calibrate the injectors (rolling from to 2600 to 1600). At the end of this procedures I found this error, saying that a calibration of inj.#2 was out of parameters.
I have inspected all injectors and there's nothing wrong with the conectors or leaks.
Strange is that the corrections, and injection durations look good and similar to all 4 injectors.
Is one really dead?

Thanks in advance

Which engine is this? If it's the 8V version (DV6C) then injector failure is common, particularly on early (2011) engines.

I thought it was the earlier 16v engines that had weak clamps for the injectors?

Yes it is the DV6 8v engine with 112hp and 2011! That confirm my suspects and I was now looking for new injectors on eBay!
I get reconditioned ones for 300Eur (ca. 265 GBP). Or there is some official recall from Citroen where they support the change?

Thanks for the info

It looks everything good with the injectors, no leaks and clamps are good tight!

They fixed the problems with the injectors coming loose, but introduced a batch of injectors in the early days that just give up the ghost at some point

There's no support from PSA as far as I know. One of our users runs a garage and says he always fits genuine Citroen ones, as they can be a pain (or refuse!) to code otherwise.

Thanks for the information! The ones I am looking for are genuine but not new. They were reconditioned and I need to send the old ones back. They have nice reviews thought.
Since I bought the car recently I will talk first with the seller and keep you updated on how it goes.

Just a small video from a cold start where I was using the gas to keep the revs. This was the first time where it happened although the engine knock have already started for one week.

Update: after the calibrations yesterday the car just had a nice cold start today. I can still hear an injector slightly ticking but it idles good and accept gas.
I will drive later on and assume the knock on low revs it's still there but as I am driving mostly on motorway it runs pretty normal.

Another update, I spoke to a friend living in France and working for Citroen. He said that sometimes the injectors go bad after doing the calibration with diagbox. Does anyone have heard of it? Because I think that is what happened to me. The engine was running good and after the calibration it started to knock. Now is the question if the injector is really dead or can be adjusted again... Until now without success!

Hi all, the engine is running great again!
I made the injector calibration with diagbox a few more times, and at a point the injection timing was right again. For the last time I runned the engine to working temperature and then performed the calibration of injector #2 (the one making trouble) then I jumped to the calibration maneuver menu and did a few runs in 5th gear rolling from 2600 to 1600 RPM. After a few tries, the knock was gone!
Glad that it worked out!
