C5 X7 lexia/diagbox performing adaptations

Had a close one with the electric tailgate on my C5 X7 Tourer at a fuel station today. When locking the doors to go to the pay booth, by mistake I pressed the remote control centre button which opened the tailgate. Luckily the dogs didn’t jump out as they often do. I remember reading on here that it’s possible to re-programme the r/c to accept a long press to operate the tailgate and I want to set mine to this for which I’ll require lexia/diagbox.

Can anyone offer advice on whether a cheapie like this is worth buying? It states full chip lexia and diagbox v7.83 which probably isn’t the latest, but I understand is more about the user interface than the cars it covers?

I can find no reference in any of the documentation regarding a long press of the middle key to activate tailgate opening - I think you may be getting mixed up with something else.

I've checked the ECU configuration options and again there is nothing there concerning this.

However, what you can do and don't need Lexia to do is choose the 'Selective' opening option.

On the car's dashboard menu, selectable when the car is stationary by pressing the left hand wheel button on the steering wheel. Go into the ‘Comfort’ menu and from there you can select the locking / unlocking options.

If you choose 'Driver's Door Only' option, this basically only unlocks the Driver's door with a single press of the fob.
In order to unlock the tailgate and the passenger & rear doors, just press a second time.

This is what I think you need to do if you don't want to automatically open all the doors and the tailgate on the first press.

It's only the Tourer which has the centre button for releasing the tailgate. The saloon operates the headlight as shown in the drawing.

Now, what you're saying about the short/long press is interesting. When I first got my X7 I complained to the dealer that the centre button didn't work. It turned out that I was only giving the button a short press and it required a long press. I actually find this a PITA and if there's a way to flip it to accept a short press I'd be happy!

Yes I just put a generic fob up to illustrate the buttons.

But as said I have looked at the BSI configuration and there is no delay, timing or other option I can locate for the middle button tailgate setting.

Marc, I’ve changed to the drivers door only option as you suggest but on the Tourer this doesn’t affect opening of the tailgate which still opens on a single, short press.
Paul, do you want to swap cars so you can have the short press tailgate and I’ll have the long one!
As our cars’ are both 2013 this suggests that the tailgate r/c button is configurable. I’ll search on here to find the post.

Back to my original question, are these cheap lexia/diagbox kits likely to do the job (I.e. other diagnostic checks and re-configurations)?

Yes do that as I had another look today at the X7 BSI configuration and again NOTHING, zip, zilch to configure regarding length of press altering anything. So unless it is in another area such as the tailgate ECU.... I will keep searching, but let us know if you find anything specific.

As for your original question, that link looks a) too cheap, and I would really question the quality of the components used, and b) no reviews is not encouraging. I would expect to pay £130 ish for the full chip kit from a UK supplier. There is a link in the Diagnostics section for a UK supplier with a member discount. Of course there are other suppliers.

Here’s the original link where I read that the r/c press can be short or long. Looking closer, I see it’s for a 2015 car, though Paul’s is the same age as mine and configured differently so the change should be doable.

Well let me know if and where you find the option as I can't locate it anywhere and as I have the saloon, I can't experiment. The only thing I'm aware with a long press is the auto windows / roof closing feature using the 'lock' button on a long press.
