C5 2004 Hdi Cruise Control Retro Fit

Post by 4um »

Hi,

I have seen a 2004 2.0 Hdi 110 that takes my fancy but I really want cruise control on the next car (2 x 2000+ miles trips coming up this year).

So, is it as simple as buying a stalk, plugging it in and getting it activated in Lexia, or is it more involved than that? The chassis number is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] if that helps at all?

Thanks for any advice,

Ian.

Thanks white exec,

I do like reliable things and those engines seem to run forever. Just hope the leap to Hdi proves the right move. So far I’m completely impressed with the Dispatch Hdi and that’s what has made me start looking at the C5.

You also need to check that the brake pedal has the right switch for the CC to work; it needs a push to break function. There are two wiring possibilities.

1, Two pairs of wires, one with a white connector (brake lights), one with a red connector (cruise control disconnect). This setup WILL have a white switch (for the brake lights), but may or may not have the red switch. If the car does not have this switch the cruise control will not work, but you can buy the switch.

2, One group of four wires in a white connector. This will plug into one switch (well, one switch case but with two switches built in; push to make (for the brake lights), and push to break (cruise control). If you have this setup you will not need to take any further actions re brake switch).

I will have to check the Lexia settings, but I know another forum member has (within his blog) done a clear write up on this.

That’s great information, thank you!

So just to be clear, the worst case is that I have to buy a new switch and have the adaptation done in Lexia? Sorry if that was obvious but I want to make sure that I don’t buy the “wrong” car!

If it adds anything, it’s an 04 2.0 Hdi manual VTR.

Fantastic write up, thanks wheeler!

One last question to which you may not know the answer; the stalk I have is the combined limiter/cruise stalk. Do you know if this will work in cruise mode only or whether I should buy a new stalk?

The limiter function will not work on a Citroen (that is a Peugeot function), so what the C5 will see is a rotary switch with the functions Off/On/Off. When you fit it, use a Lexia and go into the Driver Module menu (not sure of the steps), and you can then test the stalk from there.

My Mk1 C5 had a "limiter" function insofar as I could set it to beep a warning if a certain speed was exceeded. It certainly didn't stop you going faster than the set limit It was totally useless and so I wound it up as high as it would go and forgot about it.

I think my X7 has the same function but I have never investigated properly and just ignore it.

I think the 'Overspeed' function is independent from the cruise control, and is accessed through the button on the end of the wiper stalk.

No, on the Mk1 there is a separate stalk for the cruise control and, IIRC, a wheel which can be set for CC or overspeed (thanks for the correct name) operation. The X7, I'm fairly sure, has a separate button on the steering wheel boss to flip between CC and overspeed but I have never operated it.

Try flicking through the menu options on a C5 Mk1 using the button on the end of the wiper stalk. Overspeed is definitely in there. It is not part of the Citroen cruise control (and is not a limiter of the style that Peugeot uses).
