2012 C5 massage seat and brake judder

Post by deckoil »

Hi all,
I discovered the forum and have spent the last two hours reading post after post. So much information........
Recently purchased a 2012 C5 160 HDi exclusive estate car - 75K, Kms so under 50K miles. Very happy with it but noticing some minor problems.
I've added to a post about fan speed only operating at max but there are two other issues I'd appreciate help with:

The massage seat function works for less than a second and then goes off. On a local Australian forum, a post suggested adjusting the lumbar setting to fully on, as this might release the 'rollers' - but that hasn't worked. Any ideas?

I'm detect a slight 'judder' or vibration on gradual braking ie. when approaching a roundabout for example. It's not a problem in stopping, but it would be helpful to understand in case it indicates something I should look at now.

6 speed auto gearbox - should I change the oil at this mileage and what oil. Vin is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]. If anyone could use this to give me a breakdown on the vehicle, I'd be grateful - ie engine type, gearbox model, diesel additive type (reservoir or bag) etc and specific oils. Sounds like I know something....don't be fooled, I've just been reading the forum!

Finally, home servicing - I used to do my own basics some years ago as a student. I'd like to do it again, now I'm nearing retirement..... what can or can't I do myself on this car - brake, oil, gearbox oil, diesel additive etc?

Thanks for any replies......

Might I suggest you consider getting a Lexia system? Make certain it has the full rev C chipset, otherwise it may not work with your car. You will need a computer to run it through, ideally a Windows XP or Windows 7 laptop (and it needs to be a 32bit O/S). There is a unit supplied by Easy Diagnostics that ticks all of the boxes, but I don't know what the shipping costs would be. They do have a discount code for forum members;

There are 2 motors used for the massage function - essentially these are the same motors used for the lumber support horizontal and vertical adjustment. The switch moves in 4 ways, so I would suggest you first hold it fully up, or try fully down, then try left and right in order to free the rollers if this is the issue of course. Note: always do this with the engine on, but be aware continued use will result in the overload protection kicking in if the motors get too hot.

(14) Lumbar vertical adjustment motor (HIGH / Low).
(16) Lumbar longitudinal adjustment motor (Front / Rear ).

This sounds like your brake discs may be warped that is causing the juddering, or as a result of using old pads on new discs previously that have worn the disc unevenly. It is more noticeable when the discs get hot, so I would get them checked out.

There's really too much to go into in one post, but the information is here on the forum.

To get you started: Your build date is 12968, so your diesel additive is 'Powerflex', you have a tank not a pouch, and the click fit connectors should be blue. See here:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=41994&hilit=eolys&start=90#p571982

You have the DW10CTED4 engine which is a Euro 5 engine.#
You have the Aisin AM6 6-Speed automatic gearbox.
You have an RT4 Telematic Navigation system (no bluetooth, but takes a SIM card in the unit for built in phone use.

I'll send you the factory info from your VIN via an email to save me repeating it all here.

The AM6 oil should be changed despite being 'selaed for life', however the oil cannot be completely drained, so cannot be changed in one go - it usually takes several oil changes to get a near complete change. There is a certain procedure to do this, again plenty of info on the Forum, and you will need Diagbox diagnostic software to do this, as the oil counters need to be reset.

Official procedure in my post here:

You really should consider getting the Diagbox diagnostic software and hardware if you are going to want to be doing your own maintenance. It consists of a hardware interface communication tool (VCI), the cables and of course the software, which requires a laptop to use with a 32 bit version of Windows.

There this can help with live data, parameter tests, diagnostics of all ECUs, and of course contains a lot of the procedures for depressurising the hydraulic system, putting the electronic parking brake into maintenance mode for certain operation like changing the rear disc pads etc.

Thanks Marc,
That is great information. I'll have a look at the seat again and I'll get the brakes looked at. I think it is worse when hot.
