Citroen beelingo 2001 van steering rack

Hi my steering rack needs replacing i can get a new rack for £120 , just wondering what sort of job it is to change been told by acouple of garages its a big job and needs subframe dropping and said over £200 for labour . Does anyone know anyone cheaper in the pontefract area many thanks

That's about right and then there's all the power steering pipes and seals to do, tie rods and of course tracking and the like.

& to think I swapped the racks between my last XJ40 & XJR, with one car on the drive & the other out in the road (only to find the leak was from the pump) - messy/unpleasant but not difficult or even, particularly, time consuming.

They don't call those "luxury cars" for nothing!
You might be able to wrestle the rack out through the wheelarch, like a 206, but easy it isn't.
Allow a full afternoon, if it can be done. Longer, for failed attempts and having to drop the frame, if it can't.
In honesty, if the facilities are available, I think I'd just go for the subframe right away.
Much better access, so far fewer injuries
