Larger AX tyres

Post by Stickyfinger »

Will 175-70-13 tyres fit a standard arch using a standard 13 metal rim, anybody know ?

I have been challenged to take the AX where the Land Rovers go so need new tyres :)

Square arch or GT body kit on the back?

Square arch you'll find 165 will rub but you can flatten the lip and pull the arch a bit and you'll be ok. I never tried 175's.

A careful approach and especially a delicate action on the clutch will go a long way towards your goal (depending on how severe we're talking) and you might also experiment with significantly lowering the pressures. Reckying the course, on foot or bicycle, if practical, might also help you win the challenge.

Remember also that spinning just one driven wheel is enough to get you stuck; coz of not having an LSD

If the car's used regularly on-road, you technically should advise your Insurers its modified if its got non-standard rubber on it; a bit OTT really*, but you'll be glad if you shunt something expensive in it (eg) a few weeks later; I reverted to standard tyres on mine at the last time of replacement for this reason having run 10mm over-width for a while [-X previous.

Let us know if you win the challenge and owe us a Pint :-D [no 'Mine's a Pint emoji, Mods!]

*but not as OTT as one year when I was shopping around and one Insurer's advice in the 'Any Modifications to declare' section included a fitted tow-bar.

Apparently some insurers maintain that fitting winter tyres is a modification of which they should be notified - but there was a report in the paper last year (maybe the one before) of a claim that was refused because there was a sticker on the back of the car.
