I noted with some surprise that a Brand New rad' for my 405D (mine's got a fairly severe weep) is only £70 on eBay...

...if Xantia diesel rads are similarly cheap you might be in for a pleasant surprise.

I got half an idea there's at least two variations on top hose fitting for mine, dunno whether it'll apply similarly for yours; just be sure the fittings all 'match'.

Hi,

Right I have stripped the radiator out today and measured it all, it's 610mm x 399-398mm x38 -39mm the locating pins on the bottom are 685mm the intercooler sits on two locating pins either side on the top.
And here's a few numbers I got off the radiator, it is a Ordonez one. Found this one what do you think can someone check the part numbers for me, need to be sure it fits. MAGNETI MARELLI 350213313000 Radiator, engine cooling CITROËN XANTIA, difference in thickness this one is 610mm x 398mm x 36mm

Manufacturer Part Number: BM313
Other Part Number: 61302, 730982 Reference OE/OEM Number: 96144046, 1301FY
Brand: MAGNETI MARELLI

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

Thanks Pete - loosing the plot again.

So Kevin you have the answer
1301 FY or
1331 HW

As long as they state either of these you should be fine along with the measurements confirmed, as you've done.

Hi,

Right all fitted now just need to refill the cooling system again, what came out was red/pink antifreeze. But does anyone know what type I need halfords do two Comma G30 or Halfords OAT Antifreeze. They are both Red/pink.
Any ideas here please, which antifreeze to use.

Thanks

If the car has never been on OAT (organic acid type, 'long life') coolant before, don't switch to it now. This type does should not be mixed with standard (glycol) type, and there may be some residue.
Coolant colours can't be relied on to identify coolant type: there is no agreed standard in the industry.

My advice would be to stick to standard ethylene glycol type (which should be replaced every couple of years). Check the bottle's stated ingredients/type. For topping up, always use the same type (and same brand if you can).

Hi Chris,

Are you saying that the antifreeze that came out the car is long life because it's pink. I'm confused with the whole business of antifreeze at present. No ones seems to know what the right antifreeze is for this vehicle.
All I know is when I drained it down the antifreeze was pink. I was just going put like for like back. Every website comes up with OAT antifreeze correct one for the car. So it's a bit confusing, do you know what citroens say to put in and is there any other pink antifreeze that is not OAT. Got to finish this Job by tomorrow.

Thanks

Forget colour - most OAT mixes are red, or pink, or yellow.....but there is no standard colour; individual manufacturers can do as they wish, and do.

If you are going to change coolant type (from OAT to glycol, or vice-versa), then it is essential that the system is thoroughly drained and flushed out with distilled/de-ionised water. Coolant types mustn't be mixed, as there is a risk of blockage/crystallisatuon/sludge/formation of goo.

Older cars were designed to run on gylcol type; recent vehicles (year 2000...) often had OAT factory installed. A 1996 vehicle sits a bit half-and-half, but probably in glycol territory.

Hi,

Well had to do a bit of research and it appears there are 3 main types of antifreeze, most are ethleyne and glycol based, but it's the additives you have to watch for. IAT, OAT and Hoat
Most Oat appears to be pink or red. Hoat antifreeze is either orange or yellow and the older type we all used to know IAT which was green or blue. So it would seem mine has already been changed to long life.
So really don't know where to go from here whether to flush it all out and go back to blue or stick with the pink stuff now. And Chris I know you say don't go by colour, but there is no tool on the market for checking it has additives in it. Only one to check glycol and ethlyne present in system. The whole market seems to be misleading and every online part store I have gone to online to put my REG in comes up with same thing pink OAT antifreeze, how misleading is that. No wonder so many people are having problems.

Thanks

If in doubt, just go with Citroen's own coolant mix (here, it's called PSA "Pro", and comes 5L ready-to-use).
It's a standard (blue) ethylene glycol mix, with a full set of corrosion inhibitors, etc. (Just ask for a standard glycol mix, not long-life OAT.)

You are right: the coolant mix market is extremely confusing, with little attempt by many makers to actually state what type of mix they are offering. Inevitably, many sellers don't understand it either, and I guess many don't care. Whatever you choose, stick with it for all topping up, and don't mix with any other type/colour/make.

I had the same problem when I replaced the rad on my 407, only 2 thirds of the fluid came out. I did remember, however, that the previous owner told me it was due an antifreeze change this winter. He changed it every 2 years, so I went with the standard glycol. As you say Chris, this area really does need to be standardised.

Hi,

Got the right antifreeze now and gave the car a good flush out for about 15 mins is that enough to get it all out. And Does anybody know the best way to bleed the cooling system on these.

Thanks

I have tried to stop using eBay as I don't like the way they or PayPal work. Both customer services are non existent. I use Amazon as they have never let me down on the customer service side. Plus the review system is a million times better than the feedback on ebay. ebay really only lets you leave feedback on the seller as after a while you can't see what item the feedback was on.
