Interestingly part number 10 on the fuel tank view looks just like an inertia/collision switch ? at the back?? by the tank ???

Yes that's the one - number 10 in this Diagram, referred to in parts as a contact switch.

The picasso seems to be behaving its self and I am due to see it saturday night/sunday for the oil change and fuel filter, and hopefully the under bonnet earths. The pug clutch cable arrived yesterday so with the help of the wife ( I have trained her well and do exactly as she says ) winched it up under the car port. The under bonnet stuff was removed and the car will be in the air this afternoon. Then the fun begins with the pedal end!

:-k Must me an old late registered model. 2002 was the changeover year. If its not a com2000 model then it should have a separate double relay and an inertia switch, inertia switch should be mounted on one of the strut turrets.
