Jump start from a DS5 battery

Post by qprdude »

Being kind of old and decrepit, I'm used to jump starting cars by connecting + to+, then - to-

The boss's Clio wouldn't start yesterday so I got out the jump leads.

I couldn't find the Negative post on my DS5!!!!!
The positiv is under a flap , above the air filter. The battery must be fore and aft, because I couldn't find the neg post as the battery disappears under the cowling and under a fuse box.
Hope it never goes wrong , I don't fancy replacing it.............unless someone can advise me ? :?

Someone will be able to point you in the correct direction, but if you have the owners manual there should be a diagram showing the + and - places to connect the jump leads.

It is totally alien to me but nowadays with batteries in the boot/under seats etc there is a specific point in the engine bay ( may have a plastic cover over it ) that is where you connect the jump leads.
I feel your pain i really do :(

Sometimes there can be a simple post on the bodywork in the engine bay.

I think you may kick yourself Rick when I tell you this, but the battery in the DS5 is actually encased in a protective shield. There is a single flap that allows one terminal to be seen - probably the positive. This shield can be removed upwards. The other part is sealed I believe, so might give the impression that it’s a weird type of battery or the negative is elsewhere! :-D

As for the connection procedure when using a slave battery:

Connect the positive cable to the positive of the flat first
They connect other end of cable tompositive of slave battery,

Then connect the negative cable to the negative of the slave battery
Finally connect the other end of the negative cable to the earthing point of the other vehicle won’t start,

My battery is fine, I just can't find the neggy terminal. It's the wife's Clio battery that needs a jump. The Clio is just an old standard battery with both terminals easy to access.
Mine looks like the negative terminal is at the back somewhere, under a million fuses, and the rear engine cowl. If the fuse box/cover/shied is as delicate as the C5, I daren't touch it. I'll have another go when I can get it in my garage out of the cold. My drive is being extended and the car is out in the street.

Take the shield off the battery (no 5) in the diagram to get to the neg. terminal.

If (as I suspect it is similar to the 308, the fuse panel above the battery case must be removed first, and (especially the first time you do it) it is very difficult to release the clip at the front (or even see where it is). Even when unclipped, the wires are barely long enough to allow the battery casing to be lifted up and removed, likewise the battery.

After I had fought with the fuse panel a couple of times, I modified the clip slightly with a knife so that the panel could be lifted off with merely human strength, with less chance of damage.

For jumping, I would suggest that you just clip the negative lead onto some suitably solid piece of metal that is definitely part of the engine, possibly a lifting eye.

On our 308 (is yours the Mk1?) the true battery negative terminal is hidden at the back but there's a special terminal screwed onto the bulkhead specifically for battery chargers and jumping.

Seconded
But probably best not to use old fashioned jump leads, nowadays.
You should use surge protected ones, to protect the electronics in both cars.

The other car's a 2007 Clio! I've seen more electrics on a bedside lamp! Know what you're saying though.
