It may be a connection for an aftermarket hands free kit, now removed and may have nothing to do with the BSI. This is a common area to route aftermarket equipment through as the fuse box is there. I would ignore it.

@ozzdownunder: are you saying you have the same loose socket? If so, if you can read off any of the wiring identification numbering from the wiring sleeve it may help me find out what it is. This code is usually repeated every few inches down the wiring sleeve.

No I was thinking of adding a dashcam and running it directly from a free power connection that is not affected by the BSI POWER DOWN SYSTEM. BUT THEN I WAS ALSO GOING TO FIT A ADDITIONAL Power switch as all the USB power converters still draw power even when not in use but connected.

Ok, when I did my dashcam project, I did start off using a permanent live and regretted it - as I kept forgetting to manually switch off the dash cams (dual camera system) and kept getting a flat battery! Not a good idea.

So instead opted for a switched live. This way with my dash cam switched on , it simply turns on and off with the ignition and I no longer have to worry about it. I used piggy back fuses which was also the best way to do this without separate wiring.

I word of warning though - be very careful if you intend splicing any wires - you have a full CAN vehicle. Any errors here can cause a knock on effect with other systems if you are not careful, so avoid any of those wires.
