C3 Picasso headlight bulb retaining clips

Post by teuski »

I bought a 2009 C3 Picasso 1.6Hdi 110 and i would like to fit LED headlight bulbs (which are completely illegal here  )

Turns out the retaining clip for the halogen bulbs prevents the fitment of LEDs.
Now i'm looking for a set of spare ones to modify them but can't find any. I prefer ordering them online and haven't asked a Citroen dealership yet.
Service shows no part number and eBay only offers me the wire type which i guess is used of the regular C3.

I haven't checked the high beam H1 clips yet but the low beam H7 clips are much like these:

edit: I called the local Citroen garage and they told the clips are not sold separately. But according to them it is some kind of standard clip used on other cars too so i guess i'll just have to compare it to the other like the one in the link.

As it’s not legal we can’t really advise here on this matter (please refer to the Forum Acceptable Use Policy 7i & 7ii):

You are not legally allowed to replace headlamp halogen bulbs with LED ones for public road because the headlamp units are designed completely differently to work with the different beam scatter, plus they need drivers and additional electronics. Your headlamps will no longer meet type approval and your car will likely fail the Finish equivalent of the UK MOT.

From what I read when I was researching LED bulbs. hoping at least the Philips ones would be legal, some (all?) have an intermediate barrel that fits into the headlamp first. As to how it fits in? Sorry, don't know,

No Paul - the Philips are not. They try to hide it, but if you look in the product specification sheets of for example their X-tremeUltinon LED gen2 which they refer to as an upgrade and use a halogen type base, they do NOT have ECE Homologation.
Product description
• Technology: LED
• Application: High beam, Low beam
• Base: PX26d
• Designation: LED H7 11972 XUW X2
• Range: X-tremeUltinon LED gen2, XUW
• Type: H7
Homologation ECE: NO

Yes, I know that. And you're right, it's only by very carefully looking at the packaging you can see that they're not road legal.

One wonders why they must have expended so much money creating these bulbs (they claim to have developed an new LED to sit in precisely same place as the standard tungsten filament does) for such a limited market. I suspect that they thought that they would be legal to sell to normal road going vehicles, or possibly misled. It's such a shame.

I agree - if you look in places like Halfrauds, they too sell a range of these and coloured bulbs, but they typically have 'For off-road use only' in the small print.

I totally fail to see why they bothered - unless of course they are anticipating that the EU will change its stance on these so they have a product ready for market....

Allegedly, these would fit in my motorbike and wouldn't result in anyone flashing me.

One of the reviewers seems to have a C3 Picasso too... not that you should install them, as they are illegal for road use..

Oh, i'm sorry, there must have been a typo. I meant LEDs, not IEDs

As far as i recall i was only asking for help on finding a pair of stock bulb holders to fit standard halogen lamps.
Being such a nice guy i will keep the information on how to modify the clips to accept a certain kind of non-standard light source to myself...

The high beam H1's have an old fashioned wire clip so there will be no problem fitting said light sources there. Although they wouldn't make much difference with the 20-inch bar with 2 rows of the aforementioned light sources already in the front...
