C5 X7 Parking sensor front left exterior?

Post by Viitonen »

I changed the parking aid ecu, since the old was broken.
Diagbox found the ecu ok, but I got a new error message: front left exterior sensor faulty.

Changed the sensor that is the leftmost one. No help, the error message keeps on appearing.

Just to make sure: is the ”front left exterior” the one next to wheel or the one next to grill?

Any advice, please

Ok, so I think you have changed the wrong one. The sensor that is faulty is number 7 - I think you have changed number 6.

Thanks for this! Do I need to remove the bumper or do you have any advice how to change this?

No you don't need to remove the bumper. See below: You need a torx bit for the screw, but I can't remember if it's a T15 or T20 when I did mine.
C5 X7 Front Parking Sensor As.PNG
C5 X7 Front Parking Sensor Bs.PNG
Remove: The proximity sensor support (2) bolt (1).
  • Unclip - Detach: The proximity sensor mounting (2) ( as "a"); Using tool [1].
  • Disconnect the connector ( as "b").
  • Remove: The bracket (Proximity sensor) (2)
.
So just undo the Torx screw from the support, then use a trim tool to carefully ease out the support at an angle using the picture as a guide. There are 3 plastic bits that support it - just be gentle so as not to snap them.

Dear Marc, do you have also a scheme for the inner front sensor replacement? Is it possible to replace it only removing the engine protection under the car? Thanks a lot!

Official procedure is to remove front bumper in order to access the fittings and as I never needed to remove the inner sensors, I can't advise if there was another way, sorry.

Hello Marc. Just changed it, the not official procedure what I invented actually is the following:

1. Unmount the plastic screws from the top of the radiator.
2. Lift it up gentile.
3. Insert the hand through the hole where is the locking mechanism.
4. Reach the sensor and unclip it using one finger.
5. In the same time push on it from the front of the car.
6. Unclip the connector.
7. Fit the connector to the new one.
8. Insert the new sensor which is already connected to the slot until it clips.
9. Enjoy!

Exactly! Lot of time saved! Good luck for the colleagues with similar issue. On mine I have identified a spot which seems to be a stone hit.

Yes, that will do it any for sure. These sensors are really sensitive to drops or any impact, so a chip like that will certainly do it.
