the fuel tank on my xantia is leaking diesel .
there appears to be a white plastic dome shaped insert that takes a screw that holds aluminium foil between the exhaust pipe and the tank ,and is dribbling from this . i have tried petro patch which wont even grip on,then tried some fibre glass, that dont work either, i am now at my wits end as to try next , anybody know of a cure for a plastic tank thanks
leaking fuel tank

Does it seem that the foil retaining screw into the white plastic insert - has penetrated the tank ?
Or is it more like a crack in this area of the tank ?
In case it's the screw penetrating - then a much longer (and perhaps wider) stainless screw could be used as BOTH a foil retainer and leak plug.
Alternatives are fiddly - as then the tank area with the leak must be freed - for a correct plastic repair with empty & dried tank - a specialists job though.

the screws do not penetrate very far into the plastic inserts, so a wider screw wouldnt do, ta, it seems to be where the insert meets the tank,i think as you say its a specialist job <for my local friendly/ ex cit. mechanic who has set up on his own> .looks like a major job to replace tank ,hydraulic pipes ,exhaust, looks like its to big a job for me ,bet its going to cost my right arm and leg thanks anyway
