fuel cap sensor C5 2.2HDI 2009 PLATE

Post by morto »

Hello all after a lot of messing about ive tracked down my issue with the fuel cap open that pops up all the time , have a look at the attachment this sits just below the magnet on the fuel neck and evidently when yr cap is off it breaks the circuit and tells the ecu that the fuel cap is off , when this sensor fails it says yr cap is off all the time , to prove its this I have simply cut the wires and twisted them together and bobs yr uncle everthing is good my question is does anyone have the part number for this part, I hate main dealers absolute rip off merchants

thanks

I'll need a VIN Andy please - some models do and others don't have a fuel cap sensor. Plus you title post says 2009 2.2 C5 and your signature says a 2002 2.2 C5 model - big difference, but in either case for parts confirmation we need a VIN.

Also, when uploading an image, you need to use the full editor, and select the 'attachments' tab at the bottom, browse for, upload, then 'place' the image in the post where you want it, in order for it to show.

Ok no problem - maybe you could update your signature when you get a minute :-D , so you have the C5 (X7) 4 DOOR SALOON 2.2 HDi particle emission filter 175 Manual gearbox 6.

So the plug presence detection harness is shown in the first diagram as item 20 and the fuel flap parts in the second diagram.
Item 20 is part number 6534PF and is £135.88 inc. VAT from Citroen.

It's quite important to get fixed as this helps the engine ECU determine if you have put any fuel in the car so it can dose the additive. Although the systems work slightly differently, the fuel tank is also used to determine the estimated quantity of fuel added. But the cap sensor is also used in the programme e.g.: has car stopped?, has car fuel flap been opened? - possibility of fuel added - check quantity after car is started and driven off - decide on amount of additive etc....

No problem, we can’t always determine levels of understanding from a post. We don’t supply manuals, but can help out with the odd diagram or procedure if needed.

Hello all quick update on this is ive managed to track down a second hand fuel tank sensor .. so rip off Citroen wanted £135.88 inc. VAT I got the OEM part for.... £18 looks like new … the thing that really bugs me is its not as if the part is full of technology,, just a magnet to complete a circuit ..

First time on so please excuse me if I don't follow protocols.
I have the fuel cap open fault and tried to obtain the relevant wiring harness with the switch in it only to be told it was not available.
If anyone has information on where to obtain one I would be most grateful.
Thanks

Hi this is my first time posting so sorry if its in the wrong place. My issue is at first I had message on my c5 saying " fuel cap isn't locked" and now I have a message which says " depollution system fault" now after reading around this forum I believe it's to do with the magnetic sensor in the fuel cap. I'm just wondering if this will fit my car. Tha ks in advance

Hi and welcome.

It depends on the exact vehicle engine specifications as some do and some don't have these. But importantly, you need to have it checked out as it may be the contact switch in the fuel filler cap that is faulty and not the harness if you have one.

Edit: Just seen you last post with your VIN - so yes you do have the plug detect harness and they are all the same for the C5 X7 models fitted with them if you are sure it is the harness.

Thanks for the reply. I've checked the fuel cap itself the magnets are still there. I've also checked under the rear seats and found the connector above the fuel tank, Ive checked both plug and unplugged (incase it was loose connection ) and made no difference. I haven't yet took the wheel arch out to check the condition of the sensor. Am I right in thinking this would/has eventually lead to the depollution fault, other posts would suggest so

I haven't got any diagnostic kit to plug in and check what's going on. So I'm trying to get a rough idea of where I need to be looking. Also any idea where I could get one if I go down that route, looking online hasn't given me any leads.

Thanks once again.

The plug detect harness is used to inform the engine ECU when the fuel flap is open or closed and whether fuel may have been put into the tank. The system will check this by comparing fuel before and after. The
