Cambelt change on an automatic c5 tourer 2010 2.0 HDI

Post by French_Cars »

Hi All,

I am planning to change the cambelt on a 2010 2.0hdi c5 X7 2010 with automatic AM6 box. I need to clarify the following please:

1- Do I need to be in “P” or “N” to align the camshaft?
2- planing to use M8 bolt to lock camshaft, do I need special tool for flywheel lock? do I need to remove starter to find it?
3- is it OK to use impact wrench on crank pulley to undo it? If NO, how to undo the 22mm nut?
4- How to tighten the crank pulley nut? And does it need to be at 70Nm + 62 degrees?

Does anybody have any instructions that might assist in carrying out the cambelt change please?

Thank you in advance for any help.

You would have to have the gearbox in N surely. Otherwise you could bust the parking pawl in the gearbox.

It does not really matter, as the torque converter isolates the engine from the transmission regardless of the gear selected.

If you buy a gates cambelt kit it will come with a set of instructions.

Prices:
Belt & Pulleys - Part No: 0831W1: £162.41 inc. VAT
As above including Water Pump & Gasket - Part No: 1613561780: £209.70 Inc. VAT

Verification

Check that the following components rotate freely (Absence of play and points of resistance):
  • Dynamic roller tensioner (18)
  • Roller tensioner (20)
  • Crankshaft pulley (21) on keyways
  • Water pump pulley (22)
Visually check:
  • That there is no trace of an oil leak
  • That there are no coolant leaks
  • That there is no rubbing on the timing covers
CAUTION: Replace any defective parts.
Dynamic Roller Tensioner

CAUTION: The operations for replacing and adjusting the tension of the dynamic tensioner roller (18) are performed with the aid of a mirror.

Replacement

CAUTION: Do not release the new dynamic tensioner roller (18) without having refitted the timing belt (19).
Remove:
  • The nut (17)
  • The stud (23)
  • The dynamic roller tensioner (18)
CAUTION: The dynamic tensioner roller (18) should be secured in the cylindrical pin (25).

Refit:
  • The dynamic roller tensioner (18) (new) (Locked)
  • The stud (23)
  • The nut (17) ; Finger tighten
  • Align the eccentric (24) on the axis "d" ; Using a hexagonal spanner

If Re-Used:

CAUTION: The dynamic tensioner roller (18) should be secured in the cylindrical pin (25).

Align the eccentric (24) on the axis "d" ; Using a hexagonal spanner.
Refitting:

CAUTION: Adhere to the tightening torques.

Pre-Tightening The Belt

CAUTION: Always replace the timing belt (19).
  • Rotate the crankshaft pulley (21) on its cotter pin; Centre using the tool [0188-AH].
  • Fit the timing belt (19) on the camshaft pinion ; Immobilise the pinion ; Using tool [0188-AD].

Check the position of the timing belt (19).
Peg the assembly with tools [0188-F], [0188-M], [0188-Y].
Slacken the bolt (12) in order to permit the crankshaft pulley to rotate on its keyways.

C5 X7 DW10CTED4 Timing Belt 9D.PNG
Final Tension

CAUTION: When detensioning the dynamic tensioner roller, do not go past the index "g". Otherwise, you must restart the pretensioning operation.
Apply a nominal tension to the timing belt:
  • Slacken the nut (17) while maintaining the eccentric (24) in position
  • Slowly rotate the eccentric (24) in the clockwise direction
  • Bring the index to position "g"
  • Tighten to the specified torque: The nut (17)
Retighten the bolt (12) to the correct torque.
Remove the tools [0188-F], [0188-M], [0188-Y].
Refit the pulley cover (11) ; Using rubber lubricant

CAUTION: Check the correct positioning of the pulley cover by pulling gently on the lip.

Seems a good price. Would Citroen not use gates belts originally?.

They do, and the one that came off mine was a Gates belt when I recently had the complete kit done on mine at 70k, so the previous was the original one.

Pete, that looks reasonably priced, have you actually bought this kit from them? Is it genuine Gates kit?
If so I will order one.

I have ordered from them, and if it's not in stock then an equivalent or better is supplied. I will buy my kit from them along with the filters and oil, though it's not the same kit, slightly older version of the same engine. Dispatched by courier and comes from Germany for 10 euros for me in 3 days.

Guys - just watch the part numbers - there are similar, but different ones depending on engine. I only supply the original Citroen OEM part numbers - so you have the originals to compare - but from what I can see some of those part numbers are not the same.
