Xantia hdi Bushings

Post by xantiagreen »

How long should front bushings last i bought tbe best that was available at the tine together for both sides the drop links, rods ball joints and so on was replaced in nov 2015 on my last mot 2017 advisory was issued;

Nearside Front Suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement (2.4.G.2) same for the offside.
Ive only done 10k miles all most all of it city driving, does it seem they are starting to fail too early as i replaced bushings on my dads car mk3 diesel mondeo and had no issues for 6 yrs before selling the car. Steering feels tight no unusual noises.

Thanks
Faz

Against forum advice i fitted cheap bushes and drop links and ball joints a few years back, 6 weeks later i fitted lemforder, backing onto the drive up the home made ramp took its toll very quickly! Havent replaced them since bar drivers drop link, *touches wood*

The bushes are quite sensitive to being fitted in the wrong alignment, and this shortens their life dramatically.

Thats the brand i went for Lemforder i think the bushes were TRW or Febi, is it possible for the bushes to show up as an advisory again due in 4 or 6 wks, still no creaks,clangs or other noises from front end. Cheers

Not sure then as all the links/rods/joints and bushes were fitted by citroen and mini specialist who ive taken all my cars to for almost 20 yrs, cant imagine he wouldnt know what to do with a bush, unless xantias wear them quicker than a normal suspension setup iirc i cannot remember ever changing bushes on any of my previous cars i never changed them on my previous car mondeo 2001 and i had that for nearly 4.5 yrs and was driven locally, even the previous petrol xantia never had bushes changed. Cheers

When I had to replace the wishbones on my Xantia (the bushes had failed, but it was easier to replace the w/bone than try to fit new bushes) I was shown (by citronut; RIP) how to do it. When we replaced the wishbone we did NOT tighten up the bolts to the specified torque until we had the car sitting back on her wheels and at the correct ride height (we had waited for a few minutes afterwards). That meant that the bushes could move into their correct rest positions, and not be restricted from doing so by the various bolts. If you tighten up the bolts with the wishbone out of the 'rest' position the bushes will fail fairly quickly.
