Seven years ago a Witter towbar was fitted to my C5. I got a fitter to do the job on my drive so I was with him all the time. The only part that was removed was the bumper. Certainly no steel bar.

You can just about reach in behind the bumper with a screwdriver and lever down the clips which then allows you to pull the bumper out easily. They're not easy to get at, and it's easy to break them off. I think Citroen must have a special tool - you need something like a screwdriver with a curved blade on the side.

Good news is, My parking sensors are now working. Found a damaged sensor and the loom had been trapped cutting the wires. 20mins with the soldering iron and replacement sensor.. Job done.
Would love to retrofit front sensors.. anyone know if it can be done?

You will need to replace the Parking Aasistance ECU as that will be a different part, plus the wiring loom to the rear, where the ECU is located, replacing or drilling out the bumper and then configuration of the BSI Jim. Plus there will be 6 sensors needed for the front, as the outer 2 on the left and right bumper / wing are also used for parking gap measurement system.

I have one of those. I have never, ever, pressed it.

I suppose it’s more use for those who’ve spent 20 minutes looking for a parking spot parallel to the main road and when you finally find one you’re just not too sure if the car will fit. But, remembering the activation sequence can be a faff if you’ve not used it often and don’t have the manual in the car 👀

Button pressed, indicator on for relevant side to be measured, speed under 6 mph, and no further away than 1.5 metres - simple!

I don't need the parking space assist, But it would be nice to know how far the front is away from things when parking up. Have the aftermarket sensors that just make a noise been tried?

My C5 didn't have sensors fitted but I've used an after market kit on the rear bumper and were very easy to fix. But they only work in reverse gear. Were you to put them on the front, they would be on all the time. Don't know whether it would matter.. 8-[

I was wondering about how to switch them on. Maybe a relay that switches when the voltage rises (engine running).

In this thread, David describes fitting front sensors to his 407: https://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/ ... 22&t=56160 ; then further down Sloppysod says he has fitted to his X7 - although no details. Might be worth a PM to see what he did. I don't know if the X7 has two options for the front - with / without the park assist; the latter might be possible with the existing ECU?

As far as I'm aware Stu fitted and OEM original kit - not an aftermarket one. Each OEM system has a different parking assistance ECU. Jim, the front has to switch off at speeds in excess of 30 KMH on the OEM system.

If you are fitting an aftermarket one, the matter is irrelevant as they will have nothing to do with the OEM system and you cannot utilise an aftermarket system with the OEM system - they are not compatible and this is the case even with Citroen Aftermakret systems.
