C5 x7 tourer rear bumper removal
Hi, I need to remove the rear bumper to replace the rear parking sensors, There is a tow bar fitted so restricting the access, I will also be replacing this tow bar as a previous owner has lost the removable hitch and being a Citroen part its almost imposible to find a replacement.
Has anyone any instructions?
Many thanks Jim

Leave it with me Jim - I'm putting together the instructions for you shortly. Incidentally if you want to know the official towbar options, just pop your VIN up and I can check on the part numbers for you.

Re: C5 x7 tourer rear bumper removal
I took the rear bumper off my X7 Tourer to fit a towbar earlier this year. The biggest problem I had was trying to release the bumper at the side where it clips into the rear wing.
You're supposed to be able to just pull these apart but I found it was much more difficult than that. I think it's because there's a build-up of road grit and dirt so maybe if you force flush the gap with a hose first of all. I also squirted oil into and along the gap hoping that would help. Maybe it did but it was still a bugger to remove and definitely heart-in-your-mouth hoping the bumper doesn't rip or split.
But I've thought of another more serious problem. When I fitted the towbar part of the procedure involves removing the metal armature so that the bar can be bolted on. If you don't have this armature then you won't have the proper support for the bumper after the towbar is removed. I would have offered you my old one but I weighed it in just before the summer holiday!

Re: C5 x7 tourer rear bumper removal
The official guidance is to remove the bumper first - I have included this for you in the table below. Guidance also suggests for bumper removal that the rear wing lamps are also removed - but whether you need to do this you can determine or not as you proceed.

Re: C5 x7 tourer rear bumper removal
Ok, so instructions above for sensors, but as far as the part 9427EA goes that is of course for the complete towbar, so £317.75 inc. VAT. I've checked and I cannot see the the tow ball part as separate unfortunately.
If you need original Citroen fitting instructions for this particular version, let me know and I can email it across.

Re: C5 x7 tourer rear bumper removal
It looks as though the steel 'armature' is still in place above the tow bar Paul.

Re: C5 x7 tourer rear bumper removal
Not on my car. This is with a Westfalia towbar which I believe is the same as the OE.
What do the Citroen towbar fitting instructions say? It's possible that there is a slight difference between the towbar that Westfalia produce for Citroen and the one they sell themselves I suppose.

Re: C5 x7 tourer rear bumper removal
I'm not at all sure that's an OE bar despite it having a removable ball. What other information is written on the towbar ID plate?
Having said that, the bar in the photo certainly looks like it still has the armature.

Re: C5 x7 tourer rear bumper removal
I have asked the breakers, Where the photo is from, If the tow bar still has its part number badge. Although it does look to be in poor condition.
