Xantia Door Bright Trims

Post by BatteryMan »

Has anyone found a source for the bright trims that clip into the bodyside mouldings on the Xantia. They all seem to suffer water ingess at both ends and turn white.
Thanks.

Try any citroen garage, but be prepared to pay, front bumper price was about £35 to £40

I was really annoyed when, after a BT van had run into the side of my Xantia, the insurance assessor agreed that the car needed a new front wing, indicator & side repeater, new door skin, new wheel, tyre and wheel trim, new wishbone and track rod, and a complete respray down one side where it was scratched, but then said 'We can't replace that strip of trim on the body side moulding cause it was obviously like that already before the accident’
So they did all this work, costing nearly £1k (BT paid), the car looked perfect, and then they re-attached the original bubbled piece of trim and the car then looked s**t because of it!
Stingy buggers, I thought. [:(!]
That was 3 years ago & I still haven’t got round to replacing it.

From looking at the parts diagrams, it appears that you can only purchase the front and back strips as separate parts, and if my car was anything to go by, these don't get anywhere near as bad as the door trims.
To get the door strips appears to necessatate buying complete side rubbing strips, eg at £80 each for the front doors alone.

Perhaps ask the friendly neighbourhood painter to paint it over with chrome paint.

Ford used to sell the stuff in rolls quiet cheap as I remember, had a look and the dimensions are quiet similar to a sierra or escort, have a look and a measure !!!
Also if you take this route get some of there trim glue that comes in a little pot, its absolutely amazing the best glue i have ever come across, well worth the money !!!

Thanks everyone for comments. The actual trim itself is a black plastic extrusion with an aluminium capping. The whole thing just unclips from the moulding. I originally covered the whole silver parts with black tape, which looks fine on the silver trim, but yesterday found one door with the ally cap hanging loose, which then showed the fitting. If we could locate the source of the original plastic extrusion, then this could be fitted bare, or painted to a suitable contrast colour - all much better than the bubbled white stuff. Maybe AndySpares could help here ?
