Hello
I just bought a berlingo 2.0 hdi . When I made a test drive I unfortunately did not notice that the first gear does not want to go in very smoothly. Is it a sign of bad synhros? Other gears go in nicely.

Re: Berlingo first gear
Does it go in smoothly if the engine is stopped? It is usually a sign that the clutch is not disengaging fully.
Re: Berlingo first gear
When the engine is stopped it goes in not super smoothly but I would say normally. The trouble is when stopping at the intersection sometimes it does not want to go in and I have to release the clutch and try again or select some other gear before going to first gear. Also with low speed from selecting from 2 to 1 makes a crunch so I try to drive this way that I select to first gear only when the car is almost standing.

Re: Berlingo first gear
As well as the clutch, check also what oil is in the 'box. Should be a GL-4 (not 5 or 4/5) spec: Total Transmission 8 gear oil, 75W-80 GL-4. This allows the synchromesh (gear engagement and changes) to operate at its best.

When you are stopped and the engine is running, will it go in to gear ok? Also is reverse ok?

Sometimes it goes in nicely but sometimes it does not go in at all. Overall it is not very bad, I can drive the car nicely but I am afraid that my wife could be in trouble when waiting for the green light and then the gear does not switch in. Reverse seems to go in nicely.
Is there anything I can do to adjust the clutch? I read that berlingos have automatically adjusted clutch cable.
I will change the gearbox oil.
