Citroen C8 - EW10J4 engine rear coolant pipe

Post by Sid Tran »

Good morning!

This is my first post - I hope that it is in the right place and I haven't breached any etiquette / rules.

I recently had a coolant leak from my Citroen C8 2.0 petrol and was told that the defective pipe is no longer available (and could not be located as a used part either) and so a repair (using special putty and tape) was all that could be done.

The mechanic suggested that I try to obtain a spare pipe, especially as I am keen to keep the car - I have owned it since new and haven't seen any other car / minivan which I would like to change over to.

Here is a picture of the part - EW10J4

I'd be most grateful for any pointers on where to look for one.

Welcome, and a perfect 1st post. Nothing breached!

Could be good news.
The "Water pump pipe" comes in two types
- Manual box, pt.no. 1341 J3
- Auto box, pt.no. 1341 J4
Both still listed as available from Citroen.

Post your full VIN number, Sid, and we'll double check this.

Keep the old one: it looks as if you might be able to play a tune on it!

Thank you so much for the kind welcome and quick reply!

Here are the details. Mine is an automatic.

The repaired pipe has been re-installed and I've been assured that it should be fine, but that it would be a good idea to hold on to a spare, just in case...

Welcome!

Unfortunately the pipe listed for yours is 1341H2 and is no longer available....mind you it was listed at £243.36 when it was, so that is probably no bad thing  Looks like it is metal? Must be amenable to being welded or brazed if the repair doesn't work.

Dear Richard,

Thank you for taking the trouble to look it up for me - I'm very grateful.

I hope that the repair will last. My mechanic (whose advice and skills I respect greatly) was very careful with the repair and also tested it afterwards before letting me take the car away.

He explained that the thin metal walls of the pipe could not withstand the heat from welding, and so he repaired it by flowing solder and then overlaying with special putty and tape. It is his picture in the first post, showing the repair and the part that I should be looking out for.

Thank you for making my first posting to this forum so pleasant!

Sorry for the false hope on the other two 1341xx pipes. I was doing a parts search at that point without your VIN number*. (1341J4 is very similar and performs the same function, but with slightly different large pipe shape.)
Your mechanic has done the right thing in avoiding welding, and going for a braze/solder and reinforcement.

Those thin metal coolant pipes can be prone to internal "bubbly" rusting if coolant quality isn't up to scratch, so good idea to be sure to check this or renew if unsure.

* Have been unable to get Citroen Service to recognise your VIN, for some reason. "Unknown vehicle". Perhaps Richard had more luck!
Sid - Could you check that number against the one marked on the car?

Good evening all!

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing tonight.

A visit to my mechanic yesterday with a non-functional heater, revealed a diagnosis of further leakage from the repaired 1341H2 pipe.

He told me that a second repair is not recommended, and confirmed that it is no longer possible to obtain this part (as RichardW pointed out last year).

I just thought that I should try on this forum - I don't know where else to turn.

Please, does anyone know where I could try to get a replacement 1341H2 pipe?

I'm desperate and can't bear to think about retiring / scrapping my beautiful C8 :-(

Yours,

Sid
