The best way forward is to PM or post your VIN then tell us what sort of pipes and we can then post up a few diagrams for you to hone in on the ones in question. There are just too many variations as HDis are now on most of the models across the marques!

Dave, can you be more specific on the piping you are referring to? 'Vac' pipes doesn't really help - it you have a couple of photos - one close up and one taken further back so we can see the pipe you are referring to would help with identification.

In the interim, here is a diagram of the Turbo Air Piping in case this is what you are referring to..

rightio then....now Imgur's up and running again

Image

this pipe was tucked under the alloy pipe ( i'm thinking this is EGR > Inlet?) open ended but i couldn't see where it should go? attached somehow to the EGR valve?

Image

the red cross on this one is another that was not connected, the plastic pipe has what looks like the remains of a T in it and the pipe i connected ( rightly or wrongly?) to it was longer than it is now, it broke whilst moving it and also had a rubber connector on it as the one in previous pic and went in the general direction of the one i've connected to.

Right, that first pipe looks to be the EGR Control Vcauum Pipe (number 4 or 5 in the diagram). I’ve inserted the diagram twice, the second one with the additional parts in the table. The few that aren’t there are just clips.

If you look at the bottom, you’ll probably find the other pipes too!

Looks like somebody has disconnected it to try and prevent the EGR function......

not had too much time recently but last w/e had a little play....
stationary when revving slowly you could see the engine stutter, unplug the MAF and it went away.
tried a clean up with a cleaner but no great difference so ordered a new MAF
fitted today and now revs cleanly, all too easy?

nope, not a chance.....EML light stays on and screen flashes 'Depolllution System Faulty' #-o

so it still looks as though someone along along the line has 'bodged' a repair, although the diagram posted a short while ago on the PE code thread may help

i've also just realised i got the books name wrong!!

I thought i'd better take the bus out for a quick spin to check if it's running better....EML light still on and 'pollution' warning pinging away.....absolutely flat as ( insert appropriate comment as required), i was thinking of Witches.
looks like another rummage around over the w/e as i'm 'supposed' to be taking it to France next w/e #-o
or we go in the Beat or a Fiat 500

Have you got a Lexia? If so go through the injection ecu to the actuators test and check the egr, and both butterflies are moving, if you haven't got one nip down to Carters Cars on the ind estate near 'The Stumble Inn' ( if it's still there) and ask him to plug it in and do the tests. Also check the particulate filter to see how much soot is in it. (That's in the next menu under 'standard parameters'

Yes, I'm wondering that as the pipes were taken off as you discovered earlier - has the EGR been bodged, blanked or the like? If so this will cause fault codes if it's not working and may stop regeneration from taking place as the any faults in the engine management system including the EGR circuit will stop regeneration from taking place.

did have a Lexia/diagbox some time ago and what i have left is a long ongoing saga from an older thread still to be sorted!!

the service was done by Justin a few weeks ago and he did say to take it back as he was busy and on Hols the following week.

the issue i have with the open ended pipes is that i don't know what they're supposed to attach to or if anything has been taken off?

Just had a look at mine. I've got a T piece in a similar area. One pipe, possibly the red X connects to a rubber pipe about 3" underneath the dosers, by a silver 'plastic' tube ( if that makes any sense) can't tell you what 'cause I can't see it, only feel it. The pipe that shoots off to the right goes into a fibre sleeve along with something else and turns up on the RHS of the oil filler and disappears towards the bulkhead, possibly EGR vacuum? The bottom one goes to one of the connections on the solenoid valves on top of the AC compressor. Again can't tell you which one without unplugging and blowing. The pipes all seem to be part of the vacuum system. It's a guess, but on the permanent vacuum side? The only reason I suggest side is that I've had the solenoid pipes off that feed the butterflies and one pipe only operated one butterfly. An actuator test will clarify. I think the 'green ringed' tube on each solenoid is the vacuum supply, the other actuates the butterflies.
Probably doesn't help much, but it might?
