Hi, I'll need your VIN to determine the specific codes in relation to your engine first of all. Post or PM it if you prefer

Initially it sounds like the engine management ECU has limited power to protect the engine. This is a specific back up mode and won't allow you to exceed this until the problem is resolved. Once I have this info, I can see what it isn't happy about.

Hi - sorry, I've been a bit busy today - but just checked now and your VIN is incorrect - so can you double check. I suspected it may be RWR or RWU, but is still incorrect, so you'll need to check again, then I can help you.

Ok so you have the 2.2 175 DW12BTED4 engine with FAP and Bosch EDC16 CP39 variant of Injection System.

The P1351 Code is common with most of these diesels, and concerns the glow plugs: Pre-heating relay circuit : Relay controlled and plugs never supplied. This error can largely be ignored as I've not really known anyone doesn't have it. The glow plugs are only rarely used in very cold temperatures and again to help assist regeneration to occur if needed.

As for the other fault - interesting P0229 is not listed on the injection system as a valid fault, but does relate to the Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch C Circuit Intermittent from other sources.

The black smoke issues is related to over-fuelling, but the common causes of black smoke are faulty injectors, a faulty injector pump, a bad air filter or a blockage in the air pipes restricting the oxygen supply, a clogged EGR valve or even a bad turbocharger (although with the latter I would expect a separate fault to be recorded).

Hi Marc I have just spoken to my mechanic friend you told me about the fault codes he tells me that the codes were p1351 p0299 p2408 p0100 p0088 but since clearing them he will only get fault codes p1351 and p0299. The car has been fine since buying it 5 months ago we went from the Midlands down to Devon and everything was fine we drove across Dartmoor and on the way back as I accelerated to join a dual carriageway we thought we heard a ping sound from the back end of the car moments later the acceleration dropped and it would not rev over 3000 revs. as the car was still running I thought it would be ok to drive home but the next morning it went into full limp mode. It was taken to a Citroen garage who said that the DPF filter was completely choked and recommended another garage that would be able to clean the DPF out. Between the Citroen garage and the other garage it cost me £200 when I got the car back it was still limited to 3000 revs. After my mechanic looking at it he told me about these codes I am at a total loss with this car now

Ok, so the injection system will go into a backup mode if there are issues with the fuel or emissions system.

The appearance of certain faults in the particle filtration system leads to the illumination of the engine diagnostic LED. The engine management lamp illuminates if there is a fault on the following items or information:
  • Differential pressure sensor
  • Exhaust gas temperature sensors (downstream of the catalytic converter)
  • Clogged particle filter
  • Holed particle filter
When the DPF was cleaned out, did you get the additive counter reset? That would need to be done or the amount of additive injected will still be counted in the ECU. So I would get that reset or clarify whether it was done.

I note that the previous fault codes below were in existence previously:
CodeDescription
P2408Additive system: Fuel tank cap sensor signal fault
P0100Flowmeter signal: Air flow not plausible
P0088Fuel high pressure regulation: Pump flow regulation solenoid valve opens more than the reference value
Here's a little more info on the backup mode in relation to the particle filter system. Even if the fuel cap sensor was not working properly as per the fault code, then there would at least have been a strategy employed to ensure that some additive was actually injected. But is certainly is possible that the filter h

Back-up operating modes
The injection system manages the following back-up modes:

An operating mode with a reduced fuel flow.
Reduced fuel flow
This back-up operating mode limits fuel flow, and the engine speed cannot under any circumstances exceed 2750 rpm.

The injection system switches to "reduced flow" mode when a fault is present on one of the following components:
  • Clogged particle filter
  • Differential pressure sensor
Fuel additive function - Operation in degraded modes
3 main strategies are used if the additive systems develops faults.
Fuel filler cap faulty.
  • The engine management ECU uses the vehicle speed information in conjunction with the fuel gauge information to inject the additive.
Fuel sender fault.
  • The engine management ECU makes an addition equivalent to filling of the fuel tank; When the fuel filler cap is opened/closed.
Failure in communication on the multiplexed CAN network.
  • The engine management ECU makes an addition equivalent to filling of the fuel tank; When communications are interrupted for more than 10 seconds.

Hi marc I think I may have found the problem at this morning there was a 3 inch tear in the rubber pipe that goes from the intercooler onto the metal pipe with an goes up to the turbo charger but would that throw up the fault code for the fuel flap and the p1351

Not P1351, that is glow plug supply and common for most HDis, but the split hose will of affected the air supply that I mentioned previously leading to the over fuelling and the other code to do with the air flow not plausible.

Here’s the turbo air piping with the part numbers. Let me know which one it is and I can advise of the OEM price.

The part number is actually given on the diagram above: 0382HG

They seem to be available on ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEUGEOT-407- ... 1976283962
if you think that looks expensive, I think they are more than double that from Citroen.

The part is 0382 HG and is priced at £216.32 from Citroen inc VAT.

There are ones here for £85:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEUGEOT-407- ... 1976283962

It is very possible that this will be a contributory, if not the cause of the problem, but regardless needs to be replaced.

I'm a bit confused now because when I spoke to my local Citroen garage( well a friend that works there) they told me it was this part and gave me this link. Is that not the right part for my car
