Saxo remote fob

I have a 2002 Saxo with remote central locking and a Citroen fitted alarm. Some time ago the remote stopped working. A new battery lasted a few days. This got worse to the point where a new battery lasted less than a day.mive had the remote tested by a repair company. The chip is dead.

I read on here that it might be possible to program a second hand remote to the car with a Lexia so called my garages locksmith. Much sucking of breath and stating it wouldn’t work, no idea about Lexia and as the car is old I won’t be able to get a new remote. It’s the two button type like this

Hi and welcome - there are 2 types of transmitting module on the Saxo - one is still available from Citroen and the other is not. It depends on which one you have. Post up or PM your VIN and I can tell you which one you have.

Lexia is only the diagnostic tool that will pair the key to the vehicle, but if the fob is not functioning to start with it won't make any difference.

Being a 2002 model it will be the RF type plip so should be part no 6490L7 It's just under £120 inc VAT
This one is still available.

My local Citroen dealer has quoted £178.30 coded to the car (one hours labour £60). There is a Citroen specialist near me, Ray Calvert Classic Cars http://www.candccitroen.co.uk/ Ray says you can program a used remote and he knows a man with a Lexia. I’ll report back how I get on.

Make sure you have your code with you - you will need this to code the fob to the car. It should be on the confidential code card supplied with the vehicle - or you can obtain it from Citroen for a smallish fee - about £15 on proof of ownership.

Thanks for the reminder. The key code card is blank but we paid to get it and the radio code when we bought the car (14 months old). Unfortunately my wife has put it somewhere safe and can not find it.

The Citroen guy came at tea time today. He works at a Citroen main dealer. He brought a lap top with him that plugged into the car and took ages to test everything. It didn’t detect the remote plip facility so he went onto the internet and looked on the Citroen technical site. He tried a few different things which didn’t work then went into the diagnostic screens again and selected Programme Remote Plip, pressed the plip twice. The computer said plip accepted and it works!

He didn’t need the key code to do this.

So apparently you can programme a used plip to a different car!

You might on the older ones, but not the later units, but glad you got it working.
