C5 X7 gear indicator

Hi all, I have a new-to-me 2008 C5 with a 2.0 HDi (DW10BTED4) and the associated BVM6 6-speed manual gearbox. When I was in the process of buying this car I also test-drove a 2011 model with a 1.6 HDi (DV6C) and a BVM5 (BE4-5L?/BE4R?) 5-speed manual box. That car displayed the current gear on the right-hand screen in the instrument cluster, along with a gear shift indicator light.

I was wondering if anybody knew whether it was possible to enable this feature on my car? The car knows what the current gear is as I can log this in Diagbox; and the LCD has the appropriate segments to display the numeric gear indicator and arrows. I've already enabled DRLs and light-sensitive instrument backlighting but haven't spotted any likely config options for the gear indicator. Diagbox also doesn't show a gearbox ECU although I'm nut sure manual 'boxes have them...

I can supply the VINs of my car and the 1.6 car if anyone needs them.

Not an option I’m afraid. Different engine, different engine ECU. The manual’s don’t have an independent gearbox ECU unlike the Auto boxes.

Thanks. I'll stick another query in here while I'm at it -- am I correct in thinking that I can't enable auto-dipping side mirrors in reverse gear as I don't have electric seats?

Unfortunately not - the X7 early top models (exclusives) had the Auto dimming (electrochrome), indexing driver and passenger, memorised positioning functions and were a very expensive option, so were later dropped. If you post or PM your VIN I can determine exactly which system you have. As the mirrors and the door control module to control them are different, you need both for them to work and it is not something you can enable on a mirror unit without this function to start with.

Ok, got your VIN. No you don't have this option, but just for reference and to give you an idea just how expensive these are:

Your driver side mirror with the Fold back option and tinted will cost new £376.02 inc, VAT
The replacement mirror for my X7 that has all these extra options I described will set me back £940.28 inc. VAT
