Thanks Marc. I'll pop her up on ramps, remove the undertray and have a look. On a completely separate note. As I'm raising car up I'd like to change auto gearbox oil on my AM6. I've identified right oil, any idea how many litres I need to buy?

Yes, remember you can only do a partial change. Total capacity for a dry gearbox is 7 litres, so you can only drain 3 litres out, leaving 4 remaining. So you can replace 3 litres at each oil change time. So leave it for a month or so and then repeat procedure and again to get as near as you can complete change.

For the AM6 drain and refill procedure, see my post here:

It depends on the Euro rating of the engine. Can’t remember if I have your VIN previously, but PM me and I’ll check your engine rating and the right oil you need.

Hi John, your car is Euro 5, (DW10CTED4) built 2010, so needs the AW-1 Oil NOT the JWS 3309.

Your Engine is stated as Euro 5 Emissions standard too.

Hi Marc and John
PM with VIN sent to you Marc and yes John if the oil is the same spec then I'm happy to order bulk if it saves money. If memory serves then other consumables like drain plug and seal will need to be ordered too.

I have suggested here before that one could try 'padding' a worn height corrector with a resistor of, say, 10% of the total track value, thus moving the operating point, then adjusting the height accordingly. I have to point out that I've not tried this, having got away with cleaning them, but worth a try if you'd otherwise replace the corrector.

Hi John, Sadly my car is Euro 4 and takes JWS 3309 so we wont be able to get a bulk order and save a bit of cash :-(
Interesting idea Dsney, I'll pop the car up on ramps when I'm back from honeymoon and check out the sensor.

ttfn

^ Usual precaution about supporting the car independently first, if working on the height correctors.

To be honest though I never really heard of these being repaired - they are uber sensitive. Current price for your X7 rear corrector is part 5273J9 and £60.02 inc. VAT Gino.

That's a very interesting solution to the problem, and one I may have to explore in the near future

I remember Trainman having an issue with height correctors on his C6, and I found (somewhere in this forum) a thread where somebody had (carefully) opened up a height corrector (it may have been for a C5, but they were similar). It turns out that that, while the pins are square, the holes they go into are round, and whoever did the soldering was somewhat sparing with it. On the thread I found the person re-soldered the joins (making sure they had plenty), and that seemed to get the height corrector working properly.

My oil arrived today .6 or 7 litres .. I may try the first drain on Friday Eve .

Interestingly the car no longer changes to 5 or 6 automatically as of last week. Well not very often.
will it change. Manual shift is still ok. Will report back on things ;)

Which oil did you go for in the end?

That's very odd, I also had an occasion this past week where the gearbox failed to change into sixth despite being on a dual carriageway at 70. Still, it must have had a reason!
