Citroen C5 X7 BHI/Suspension pump query

Post by hab5000 »

Hi all,

My 2008 2.0 HDi C5 X7 Exclusive Tourer has started blowing 40A Maxi fuses every couple of weeks, so looks like the pump motor is on the way out..

I've sourced a working unit from a breakers with the same part number as mine from a 2009 C5 X7 2.0 HDi Automatic. My car is a manual gearbox, so will this make any difference with ECU etc when swapping?

Any other info on this job would be very much appreciated!

I've recently suffered a single fuse blowing incident recently detailed here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=60408

The consensus seemed to be that dust from the motor brushes mixes with grease causing a short circuit on the commutator blowing the fuse.

If you already have a replacement motor it might be a good idea to open up the back casing and inspecting it before replacing it.

I'm not an expert but I think you can replace the motor whilst leaving the rest of the BHI alone, that way there wont be issues regarding ECU's afterwards.

For the DW10BTED4 engines, there were 2 pump parts: 5277 K1 for the AM6 Auto box and 5277 J9 for the 6 Speed Manual. If you are replacing it with an identical part number, then you should be fine - but the technical information says when replacing them they need to be configured using Diagbox. Whether that is for a non-configured replacement part (i.e. without the VIN being specified to the dealer for configuration if you were ordering a brand new one) I can't be certain.

If you have access to Diagbox, I highly recommend that you either write down or screen shot the existing unit values from the BHI regardless, so that these can be compared to the replacement in case of issues.

That's very interesting Marc, I wonder what the difference between the two pumps are and why the gearbox type would come in to consideration?

Well I can tell you that they even have BHI/Pumps for "Good Terrain" and Uneven Terrain"! and different ones for the AL4 box, AM6, Manual and again for all the different engine types. However on certain engines there is a separate suspension ECU located in the rear somewhere and on others a smaller unit in the front and others it is integrated into the BHI.

So it probably has to do with the engine type / weight / speed, and another reason for the 4 body height corrector sensors on the 4 wheels for the V6 models as opposed to the front and rear ARBs on the 4 Cylinder models. Different driving characteristics and requirements I suspect.

Thanks for all the replies folks.

In reply ro GiveMeAbreak - this is my first Citroen, so not too familair with diagnostic/ecu tools. Any more info on this would be good.

I'm thinking of possibllydoing what EDC5 said above - just swapping the motors over and leave the ECU undisturbed.
