Which oil for my C5

Post by Gibbo2286 »

Trying to find the correct Total engine oil for my 2006 C5 2.0L HDI 138 FAP.

I've got the drivers handbook but not the service book which is where the specs are listed, Total's site is, at the moment, just a blank white page. Citroen's site says go to Total

When I restored this car to life I just used the factor's own label oils but now I'm satisfied it's a keeper I want to get the right spec Total in it.

Gibbo - it's all on the wiki - I put a long guide up there - follow down until you get to the DW table and look for the DW10BTED4 engine with Particulate Filter (which should be yours) -

All the specs and norms are there:
https://frenchcarforum.co.uk/wiki/index ... arbox_Oils

So in this case, 5W30 and looking in the table near the top it states B71 2290 as the standard. In my X7 service book (they are generic now covering lots of models - it simply states the same standard and recommends any oil meeting that spec or if you want the Total oil it is Total Activa / Quartz INEO ECS. :-D

There are a few oils meeting the PSA B71 2290 spec but the Total one seems to be the cheapest.

I recently bought 6 litres of Total Ineo ECS 5W30 from eBay for £33.

Really good price in my view. I got the extra 1l for a mid year top up to dilute the filth in the oil but that's not necessary.

Thanks Marc, the main reason I asked is because I've got some on the shelf here (in stock for my previous C5 110) and didn't want to go and buy more if I didn't need to.

That was a good price Elis - I think I'll have to get some of that for our Domestic Heating Oil! Just had a delivery today and the prices have increased by nearly a third since last Autumn!

Yeah, can't complain really considering that's deliviered too. Makes you wonder how cheap Total distributors can get it

Yes, I believe there's this stuff you can get, called 'natural gas' - not that we've ever had any of it round here! :-D

I'm fortunate here, mains gas and earlier on this year I had solar panels installed so my energy costs are down quite a bit, I'm a bit of a miser too so put on a jacket instead of the C/H :-D
