96 td xantia air bag

iam buying the above car but the air bag light is flashing and sometimes stays on. Has any body had this problem

One of a xantia's many common faults, most probably caused by the electrical connector to seat belt pretensioner under the seats, (orange wire) in the event of a crash these are fired by the same controller that sets the airbag off, so it monitors those aswell as the airbag.
Can also be the rotary connector behind the steering wheel on odd occasions.

I know that they have an expiry date, mines on a sticker in the door frame arch front nearside, I believe that this does not affect the m.o.t. but it's up to you on how you value the airbag working. My airbag is expired now, I haven't got a warning light but I have been told that this indicates a fault which may cause it not to function properly if you had a crash .......

the expiry date of all citroen airbags has been extended from 10 to 15 years including all the early ones so you airbag recomended replacement isnt due for another few years now at least.
