Cigarette lighter

Post by jgjones095 »

I have a AX Mk2 and when i use my cigarette lighter (not that i use it often) it blows my fuse! It has done this twice with in seconds of replacing the fuse.[:(!]
Can someone suggest any solutions to solve this - other than not to use it!

Change the cigarette lighter or stop smoking. Had this problem in a Lada Niva 4x4, it turned oput to be the element in the lighter part was earthing out and so blowing the fuse. Any how changed the lot for one of those from a motor factors and hay presto no more blowing fuse. Also then gave up smoking and sold the car. Now 8yrs no smoking and fuse all ok.

does the fuse blow as soon as it is replaced or as soon as something is plugged into it ? have you tried different chargers in it to rule out the appliance ?

Hi,
It sounds like whatever you are plugging in is shorting out the supply, so trying the original lighter would be interesting, especially if it warms up, without blowing the fuse.
If this blows the fuse, then perhaps the bottom of the socket has become damaged allowing the plug you push in, to short out the supply.
regards
Russell
