Did I understand correctly that you should send your defective handbrake cable to them and they'll fix it for that price? So they don't just send you new cables to install by yourself to that mechanism? I'm just relying on google -translate....

I just linked to the factory - they may not even supply parts direct to the consumer - or parts of the EPB, but I thought it might be worth a try - but it seems the link to the cable you made is for a second hand cable that has been stripped out of a unit.

From my chrome translate I take it that he is saying, you send him your module, with broken cables attached. He will change the cables for "new", whether he means new or second hand is yet to be determined. and send it back to you. for the price of 400 PLN = £83 = EUR 95 = 1000 kr(SEK). We must assume he also means within Poland. Outside probably charge more.

He also says if the cables have broken it can damage the internals of the module, this can be repaired at more cost.

Qube90,

Do you have scrapyards in Sweden? any near you? Or have you checked ebay?
I looked on ebay and I can't see anything resembling an electric parking brake for a C5 .

Were there any further developments? Did you get the cable replaced?
I find myself in the same predicament. I could not quite believe it when the garage rang me to say replacing the electric handbrake cable on my car was £1,000.
As this thread seems to be 4 years old are there any more recent suggestions on how to find a less expensive solution?

Thanks. I emailed him last night.
Buying the cables from there would presumably be to repair the unit that Citroen sell as one complete component.
Is that right?

Correct
The unit is very rarely defective, but usually the cables are the culprit.
With the C5X7 I have not yet repaired it - but with the C6 - there the right side was rusted.
The diagnostic device (Diagbox) was used for the necessary settings. Whether it also goes without I can not judge.
Citroen also supplies the cables or the entire component for the C6 - but both are very very expensive. The cables I bought in Poland - Citroen is three times as expensive.
For the C5 X7 there is only the complete part from PSA - very expensive.
Greetings Wolfgang

I am pleased to say that my local garage was able to repair my EPB cables using ones I bought from a seller called autodoktor-shop on eBay. They were just under £150 including postage from Germany, and they arrived very quickly. The mechanic who fitted them said taking the unit apart was not easy as the unit is glued together, but it is now working again.
I also had both front wishbones replaced, two new tyres, new wipers, a full service and an MOT - so now I have new car!!! :rofl2:
I am also considerably less well off!
Thanks for everyone's help. :-D
