1.6 Hdi EGR blanking

Post by discv »

Slowly, slowly, this engine is going back together- many thanks to members that have guided me thus far.
The inlet manifold was all but chocked solid with carbon, so I'm considering blanking the EGR.
I can't find where I read this, but I seem to recall that some advise against this if a DPF is involved.
What say you?

yes EGR systems on diesels do cause excessive carbon buildup in the inlet.
On this engine if you blank off the EGR valve it will know & bring on the management light.
Assuming you were going to use the car soley off the public highway you would also need to have the ECU remapped to delete the EGR fuction to let your engine breathe freely again & help stop the intake blocking up as bad.

Please don't ask for any advice on this here. As the EGR system is also intended to reduce emissions and is therefore part of that system, it should not be removed.

This is illegal to do on a vehicle that will be used on a public road.
Please refer to the AUP, specifically, 7 i & ii

Ooops- looks like I've broken some rules by posting on this subject. Sorry.

And- yes- the EGR does reduce emissions. My car has been off the road for the best part of a year whilst I repair the damage caused by excessive carbon build up :?

They wont help you on this forum mate so you will have to find another forum maybe specific to your car or tuning.

I do know its sometimes just as much a problem blanking them off as keeping them  This depends on your engine/car type.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

None broken yet  Just wanted to give a polite nod that we can't advise on anything to do with disabling emissions equipment - and with the new stricter MOT rules in May 2018, the last thing you are going to want is any MIL / warnings coming on, or increased exhaust emissions, given that any smoke now will be a fail it seems. :)
