Hi all
help with dog of a 97 xantia required please.
I have a rattle coming from the rear end which sounds as though it might have something to do with the suspension (all spheres under a year old). From inside the car it sounds like someone shaking a plastic lunchbox with a ball bearing inside it. the noise is most prevelant when the suspension is on washboard type surfaces.
Any clues?
cheers

Steve,
Are you sure it's coming from the rear? Sounds suspiciously like front roll bar drop links to me - unless it's an Activa in which case it will be the bush on the bottom of the rear roll bar ram.
If you're sure it's the rear, then check the wheel bolts are tight, the spare wheel is scrwed up and the jack retained, and the hatch is not rattling (just tightened the lock up on mine which cured an annoying squeak). After that all that's left really is the subframe mounts or rear arm bearings, but these don't generally make the sort of noise you are describing.

I would second Dave Burns here, I shook everything I could shake under the back looking for a rattle, then I noticed when I shut the tailgate I could press it down whilst shut making a similar knocking sound, the doesn't appear to be any adjustment on the catch as it's spring loaded but like Dave said, adjusting the two rubber stops either side of the bottom of the tailgate cured it.
BTW Dave, are you the same D.Burns from the Doddy group ?
If so, 'mums still the word '!
