Berlingo Steering Issue

Post by Amison »

Just purchased Citroen Berlingo XTR 90 AU 2012 model.
I noticed a slight vibration when turning left or right which can be felt through the steering and car seat.
Garage can't see any visual fault and are foxed by it.
Steers fine but is worrying.

Any thoughts?

Could be a wheel out of balance or deformed tyre or failing CV joint. Do you get it if you turn the wheel with the car stationary?

Thanks Pete.

Wheel balance and alignment done Thursday along with 2 new rear tyres. Front ones OK. I got the garage to check the track rods etc and they were ok. I must say I think it is worse since the garage did the alignment but they checked everything on the ramp and couldn't figure it out. Halfords garage.

Only does it to left and right turn but not always. Only describe it as a mild vibration zip and then gone which is felt through steering wheel and seat. Not constantly repeatable.
Wondering if it's power steering?

Only done 24,00 miles ex mobility car.

If it was the power steering I would have thought you could replicate it at standstill. Still could be a faulty tyre, check them for bulges in the tread, ply separation can cause this. Try swapping front and rear wheels.

I would also get it checked at ATS or somewhere with a proper laser tracking system.

Tracking done and OK.
CV joints would have been detected by the guys doing the wheel alignment I would have thought as I had them check the steering and track rods.
Halfords couldn't detect a cause and I would have thought they could have if there was one clearly evident.

Garage seller says it could be as simple as a slipping belt and they would test it out with some talcum powder when I drop it in for MOT.
