Bandit12 wrote: 05 Mar 2018, 21:52 Sorry to hear you have fallen foul of a duff battery mate. I've had same issue this week but on my motorbike. Bought new yuasa from Halfords last July. Didn't ride in the snow but tried to start bike after a week of standing n it was dead! No lights, nothing so took dead battery back to shop n they insisted on checking it. 4.7 volts on a 7 month old 12v! Luckily Halfords emailed me receipt at time of purchase so swapped it. Still miffed it died tho. Hope you get a replacement under warranty :-)

Do you know what model Yuasa battery it was by chance?

Yeah that surprised me too as been using yuasa on motorbikes for years without issue but always bought them from bike shop. First time bought one from Halfords n was surprised to be told by them they only offer 12 month guarantee on bike batteries when car ones are 3-5 years. Won't be buying another bike battery from them again.

There's a lot to be said for that - especially as you can have a nosey about see it first and take a guess as to whether it has been sat in the same spot on the shelf for 40 years or not!

With on-line sellers I guess you get what they send you and have no idea how old it is.

Well as I said, next time I won't buy off the net ! They finally picked up the faulty battery to 'test' to see if it is really faulty so they can then send out a replacement one - so maybe after 3 week wait I will get another battery

Motorcycle batteries normally come dry without the acid in, you fill the acid in it then put it on charge to ‘set it up’ for first use.
This means they can sit on the shelf for years.
If you bought the battery ‘ready to use’ it possible it was not set up correctly for first use hence the early failure??
My bike has had the same Yuasa battery in it for around 5 years now, doesent get a great deal of use these days & very rarely over the winter but it is kept on my optimate almost all the time.

I got a new battery from Halfords and and its the AGM 096 I think and I got it for £116 with my sons trade discount.

Halfords are everywhere and if it goes wrong they are usually good at just replacing faulty stuff.

Yes wheeler it was a dry battery with acid in separate container. I have an optimate n great bit o kit but unfortunately I live in terraced house with no garage so can't leave bike hooked up overnight. Replacement battery is working fine tho so suspect it was a duff one.

Funny thing is on the top of the battery that came in the red Cherokee (an unknown make I cannot recall) there's a series of "radio buttons" for the months of the year & the last, say, dozen years - but none of them are marked.

Well end of the story, battery will not be replaced under warranty as the voltage is less than 10.6V  so the battery doesn't hold it's charge so it must be faulty, to which the reply was you should not use a flat battery  well surely in my citroen the 'eco' mode cuts in to stop the battery going flat... anyway, now more money down the pan on a new battery will NOT be bought online.

Oh yes, word of advice, don't use battery megastore as they are bleeding daylight robbers (funny I should have looked at the reviews on trustpilot before buying from them)

All four of our cars are using batteries bought online from https://advancedbatterysupplies.co.uk/
I find their prices are reasonable. They deliver next day and so far, I've found then very reliable.
