Mk1 C5 VTR alloy wheel trim required

Post by tontonjon »

I noticed this morning that the central trim has vanished from one of the wheels. It must have fallen out last night on the way home.

It's for a 2003 VTR alloy wheel; I have searched in online auction sites (wheels but not the trim on its own) and on parts sites, but no luck yet. No local breaker to raid either.

Does anyone have any to sell - or know where I can get a suitable replacement? It would be good to hide the wheel nuts!

Thanks.

There are several types of central plastic hub cap depending on the alloy you have fitted. If you send me a PM with your VIN I’ll let you know which one you need. Depending on the type they are relatively easy to obtain and not too pricey.

There were three types on looking, depending on Alloy:

The Monza 16"
Again, this is cheaper from citroen direct - £8.69 Inc. VAT brand new (Part 542104). The monkeys below are charging double for a used one!

The Imola 15"
Brand new from Citroen is £10.42 Inc. VAT (Part number 542113) - below is a new genuine one for a couple of £s less:

The Hungaro 16"
As for these, they are charging almost the same price for a second-hand used one as a new one from Citroen! Current brand new price for the Hungaro from Citroen is £22.72 inc. VAT. (part 542116)

Thank you! Yes, it's the Hungaro ones that I have. But the Monza ones are cheaper - do they fit in the same way, though?

More research...

While they do just snap in you must make sure they are lined up properly, otherwise they can get damaged. There are alignment tabs on the opposite side (up at the top of Marcs' picture, IIRC) that must go into the relevant place on the rim. On the attached picture this place is at the 2 o'clock position;

The notch where you would place something to lever off the cover (lowest edge, Marcs' picture) lines up with the air valve on the rim.

Yep - the mrs C2 has suffered from that not being done correctly in the past :roll: so the centers are variously cracked etc. Very, Very annoying...
I will say that I have some sympathy with the previous culprits though, because the C2 has two of those locating recesses rather than one and it's not exactly easy to get them to pop in evenly all round at the same time - and unless you do, one or more of the the tabs don't go into the recesses and that's what causes it to flex and crack :evil:
