C15 with 406 hubs?!

Post by Bsim9751 »

Hi all. I’m upgrading the brakes on my C15. There’s a turbo engine waiting to go in so I thought it’d be a good idea. 406 caliper and carriers fit the C15 hubs. The discs fit up too but I didn’t check when getting them from the scrap yard is if they all fit together. And they dont. I’m having clearance issues where the carriers meet the hubs because of the increased thickness of the larger discs. Does anyone know if I could just swap the hubs for 406 ones or do I need to get the carriers machines down a little?
Thanks in advance!

(Probably used some wrong terminology here but I think you’ll understand what I mean)

Pics would definitely help, but at the moment the way I'm visualising it the disc is getting in the way of the carrier being bolted cleanly to the hub? In this case it wouldn't be so much the thickness of the disc but the offset & maybe a disc from another application would work better?

Otherwise, I feel like the complete 406 hub assy. would be the way to go rather than taking material away from the components holding the calipers on. If the hub wouldn't fit the strut it wouldn't be too hard to my mind to use either the 406 strut or a coilover & if the balljoint size was an issue there are a fair variety of taper sizes used with the same bolt pattern as the wishbone (as we found when sourcing bottom balljoints for our ZX!)

A thread with a title like that was bound to stir my interest but, yes, I'm having a little difficulty visualising the problem too.

That said, I think 406 hubs are the way to go assuming, of course, that not only will they fit the struts but that they're compatible with the drive shafts.

Might be worth exploring the Pug forum for 406/205 interchangeability.
