Xantia heating and air con problems

Post by sawdon »

The heating/aircon in my SX TD seems to have developed a mind of its own. The temperature control is very variable and sometimes the fan works OK but at other times it doesn't blow at all.
Can anyone point me at an explanation of how the system works or suggest a fix?

Had a similar problem with a 96 Xantia LX TD with aircon and climate control. Some times fan would work sometimes not. Eventually stopped altogether. Had to buy a new heater motor from Citroen. Cost about £150 + vat. It is a special for aircon / climate control so beware. Could try breakers but you may end up with one just as bad. According to people I have spoken to it is a common problem as motors are weak.

It can be as simple as the brushes in the motor sticking.
My dad had this problem with his '96 Xantia, freeing off the heater motor brushes and spraying with WD40 cured it.

Dont use WD40 on carbon brushes - it disolves them.
If must clean brushes and commutator use pure alcohol
.... yeah i know its waste of such a heavenly liquid!

He did this a few months ago and it seems to be working fine - so far.

When you say the temp control has a mind of its own, do you mean either on temp or cold ? Does it go cold when the blower stops ? Is the rear heated screen working when blower/heater are playing up ?
PS do you have climate control ?
