Can't figure this one out... C4 Picasso
Rear brakes were groaning in reverse before I fitted new discs and pads. Much the same after new pads and discs about a year ago. Brakes were sticking a bit a few weeks ago, so I stripped and cleaned them, and they're working nicely. One of the pads is worn down as it was stuck in the guide, but nicely free now, and the brakes are working nicely. However, any reverse rotation, even just a slight run back, results in a very loud groaning noise from the brakes Ideas on a post card

Re: Groaning rear brakes
What is a "groan" exactly ? You mean like the creak that you hear sometimes on brakes on an automatic when you lift off the brake gently and it creaks against the automatic box creeping forward ?
And does it groan just as you start moving or constantly as long as you move backwards ?

It's constant when going backwards. It's not a squeal, nor a squeak....not far off the noise an auto makes when creeping, but it is hilariously loud!! I'll try and record it.

Re: Groaning rear brakes
Do you have the rear brake disc dust guards fitted? Mine have just rusted through and crumbled - so I've pulled big chunks of the plate off to stop any crud getting into the calliper - just a thought that if you have, they may be catching and scraping when reversing....

Re: Groaning rear brakes
Not familiar with the caliper/carrier set up on that car but my thoughts...
- Are there any anti-squeal shims/springs and if so, are they all present?
- Is the pad/disc wear even and across the correct area of the disc?
- Is the pad carrier/caliper correctly in line with the disc?
- Is it a separate caliper/carrier arrangement with floating pins, if so, are the pins seized?
Is where I would start looking.
