Com2000

Post by 411514 »

I have just had a terrible palaver replacing the Com2000 on my 03 C5 2.0 HDi. Why Citroen made so many versions, each near identical in appearance but with minor differences in function is beyond me. I now have a small collection of incorrect (second-hand) units which I will never get round to re-selling.

I have finally found the correct one however. The Valeo equivalent of Cit part number 6242 C2 is Valeo 251492, which is (despite what the Valeo cross-referencing manual says) correct for my C5.

Interestingly, I was old this as Valeo and it came in a sealed Valeo box, but the plastic housing is marked 'DAV' which I understand was the original maker of the unit who went bust 2003/2004 and passed on responsibility for making the unit to Delphi and/or Valeo. Additionally, the unit looks identical to the pictures on the Valeo website, and looks different to the photographs of the old DAV or Delphi units.

I have heard talk that the DAV made units were not as good as the later Valeo units. Whether this is Valeo internals in a NOS DAV casing, or simply a DAV made unit that languished in a warehouse for ten years, I don't know.

Moral of story is to take care when buying a replacement Com2000 unit as there are dozens of different versions with similar appearances.

These people do the lot:
http://www.peugeotpartsforsale.com/citr ... -com-units

As you can see there are more than a few - 2016 actual units new and reconditioned. They have to account for all the options (not just lights and wipers) but the electronic architecture of the various models and the various head units and immobiliser options.

6242 C2 has either:
£168 new
£108 reconditioned

For the particular Valeo part I required, Carparts4less seem to be cheapest. With the various ever-present discount codes a new unit is always just over £100 inc VAT delivered. I got mine new off e-bay for just under £40 delivered, and there seem to be one or two others for not much more on ebay.

It's always good to have a few sources for these as you can't always get the specific one from the bay at the time you want it. The goo think with that site I linked to is that they have the PSA part numbers very clearly against each one too.

Yes, I was aware of that site before I bought, but simply found cheaper elsewhere.

The only problem with that site is that, whilst the unit is X-referenced to the Cit part number, it is not X-referenced to the Valeo/Delphi/DAV part number, meaning (probably deliberately and quite reasonably) that you cannot check compatibility on that site and then find the part by reference to the Valeo/Delphi/DAV part number elsewhere.

I found the Valeo part search online catalogue -http://ows-cdn.tecdoc.net/valeo/home.js ... 0fe6f82565 - useful, as it X-references manufacturer part number, i.e. 6242 C2, with the Valeo part No. i.e. 251492, and also with the long number that is usually printed on the component (for example, 96 450 912 XT). Only issue here is that, as I noted in my first post, the Valeo catalogue (incorrectly) identifies a different part as for my car, and the list of the long XT suffixed part numbers is not complete, my XT part number is not in the list on the Valeo catalogue.

One thing to be aware of with Com2000 units like you have founds is that there are lots of variations but sometimes the difference between two units is purely markings on the unit. For example units with & without front foglamps are electrically identical, the only difference is the front fog lamp symbol on the unit. Same with models with the auto wiper function.
