Dip beam out on passenger side

Post by spiff »

Good evening from a very cold Mullion Cove.

Update : - Just had a look at the schematic, there are seperate fuses for the RH & LH dip beam, looks a probable place to start tomorrow.

Dip beam out on passenger side

No problem changing the passenger side head lamp bulb, battery out, small torch and a mirror.

No blood I must have petite hands : )

Unfortunately the original bulb tested ok on the battery, but I fitted a new tested one just in case.

Still no dipped beam on passenger side.

The connectoer to the lamp does not show any sign of heating.

I also cleaned the multi way connector near the head light.

Maybe the Lexia will come up with something.

I cannot see that there would be a separate fuse for each side ?

Perhaps a relay contact on the beam switching, really cold out there so gave it up for the day.

Anyone had a similar problem, it could be anywhere : )

Hallo Timmo,

We cannot claim to be Cornish but have lived here since 1986 : )

Had some snow today a very rare occurrence in Mullion Cove.

The fault was not the fuse after all, I had missed the fact that there are two sets of bulbs in the head lamp.

Also when I had looked on eBay it showed a three pin double lamp as the headlamp.

I already had one of those spare which convinced me it was the correct bulb I was changing.

When I pulled the fuses to day I realised that the headlamp on the good side was further towards the outside of the car.

The correct one is two pin and was O/C.

I have just ordered a couple on eBay for £2.99, they are listed for a different car but are the correct holder and wattage.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251590462598 ... _itemClick

Also the dimensions check out 100% as well.

I put it down to my age and the fact that it was freezing out there : )

It can be worth keeping your eyes open at Aldi or Lidl. Recently Lidl were doing headlight bulbs at £5 a pair (or £8 for two sets). They do them in H4 (fog/dipped) and H7 (main). I got a few sets last time they were in. I have not had any issues with the quality or longevity of them in the past.

Oooh from '86 is allowable, am a st austell born and bred but moved west 16 years ago, love my Kernow just a little bit! ;-) mullion is a lovely area, good friend of mine teaches at the school there,
I learnt my lesson with cheap bulbs, generally now will only fit osram nightbreaker or Philips version if the osram are unavailable, the good ladies modus is an utter pain to do, I've got it down to a fine art now, but fitting the good bulbs means i dont have to do it very often! ;-)

Unless the series II is different James, that was where I went wrong. Bought Philips Xtreme vision H4s and when I went to change them discovered that the dipped was in fact an H7 and the H4 was main+fog.

Same as mine but as said, the H7 is the dip and the H4 the main/fog.
Was an expensive mistake.

I could have got the wording wrong. When the headlights are on (main?) I have the green light on (on the dashboard), and the single filament H7 lit. When I fire up either the front fogs or the dipped beam (blue?) the H4 joins in the party.

Good evening Gentlemen,

On my 2003 model H7 is the dip, a single filament bulb.

H4 is full beam and fog, a dual filament bulb.

Fortunately the H4 I incorrectly replaced was one I found in the workshop.

We have a Lidl 10 miles away in Helston, when ever we go in they never have anything more interesting that Banana's and beans : )

Mind you I like Banana's.

Just to clarify it has been mentioned Lidl some times have head light bulbs : )

Their website thank you for that, we shall give it a look now and again to see what is available.

I have heard people talking about bargains at Lidi, I recall a few years back that they had a video microscope on sale, quite unusual items.

It is has such an uninteresting storefront, I think that has put us off calling in more.

I will, when I spot useful things on either website for Aldi or Lidl, post it up on this thread;

Good afternoon all, back to rain again.

Thank you that is great, I have copied the link to Lidl to my desk top.

Another interesting site is https://www.freecycle.org/

You never know and the items are free : )

I have just been messaged with an offer of a free vintage film projector, I collect them.

This does mean that I shall have to take the C5 out of its nice dry garage, not good as I washed it yesterday. : (

It is possible cars or parts could be offered if you post a wanted add for them.
