C5 mk2 lower rear and slight harshness

Post by Bret Sinclair »

I've noticed that the rear of my C5 is sitting lower than I think it should, it also seems too have gone a bit firmer on the rear. Driving it seems smooth enough.
Could this be the spheres ?

It probably unlikely to be the spheres as they seem to have a really good life on the C5. I replaced mine after 13 years and 150K miles and noticed no difference in ride quality.

That it is sitting lower might be as a result of the height sensor which is attached to the anti-roll bar being kaput (not necessarily a common problem), and the lower height could itself reduce the ride quality (on the C5 the car will be riding on the bump stops if even 20mm lower than correct).

Given that the height sensor is the cheapest and easiest issue I might check/replace that first, and then move onto spheres after.

Rear height could have just gone out of adjustment rather than height corrector be faulty? I would start with checking and adjusting.

And yes, with lower height I can confirm/concur with above - the ride on a c5 is more firm/worse, so that is almost certainly your problem.
