I have been told the 2.0 hdi engine is better and more reliable than the 1.6 hdi. Is this correct or myth?.

Generally speaking yes! Both the early 2.0 HDi 8v and the later 16v seem more reliable than the early 1.6 HDi 16v and the later 8v.

Of the 2.0 HDi engines, the earlier 8v is generally simpler and so perhaps has the reliability edge over the later 16v, but both seem very good. Of the 1.6 HDi engines, the consensus seems to be that the later 8v engine is more reliable.

The early 16v 1.6 HDi engine has a bad reputation for early and repeated turbo failure, but I recall there are one or two members on here who run that engine without problems.

2010 onwards the 1.6hdi is 8 valve but i have a 1.6hdi 16v without any issues so do a lot of other people i know. The bad reputation was due to incorrect oil spec'd some years ago - 10w40 semi but it has been superseded now, 5w30 or 0w30 fully synthetic.

I run a cleaning business so will be carrying.200 litre water tank, hose reel battery, tool box and a portable storage box with buckets soap etc and occasionally a petrol powered jet wash, based on this would the 1.6 be underpowered?

I'm sure it will be fine but 200l is 200kg -on top of all the other stuff, I'd go for the 2.0. If you can.
It was what I wanted to get but found it hard to find though with sensible milage. Good luck

Ti lloked at a 64 plate lwb Expert last month, ex rental van fsh, cambelt done, mot 6 month warranty for £4700 +vat, but it had 145000 on it. I was tempted but thought of re sale value in 4/5 years time. Ex. Rental van with c 200k miles? Probably poor trade in value. My mate from work bought it though, and got it for 5;3 incl.
The rental co concerned, sell alot of their vans after about 4 years, my mate worked there for 27 years and said all have fsh well maintained, just pick the good ones, and dont pay the windscreen price, he said there is alwys. A few (undred quid to get lnocked off , if you have no px. He also said, wait til the end of the month,as they will be looking to get their sales quota by then, so will often accept offers.

Well,I have ordered my new van, a 10 plate Dispatch 1.6 with 86000 miles, a little service history, and only 2 owners. Its getting a full service and MOT, and a bulkhead fitted, as I need one, but it only has the frame behind the driving seat atm. Collect it first weekend after Easter, hopefully I should start spending less on fuel now, as the Transit is a thirsty beast.

I will be well happy with that, doubt I will get near it though, as I do short runs with lots of stop start activity, and carry a bit of weight.
