Citroen C5 I Xenon lights

Post by pika09 »

Hello,

I have a problem with my C5 I regarding lighting BI-Xenon. I have the following problem:

Citroen C5 I 3001 756 yom 28.03.01
VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

Both burners were changed after this phenomenon

1. Ignition key position 1 No battery indicator light present

2. Ignition key position 2 No battery check lamp present

3. Start -> dipped beam is on Gas has been ignited

4. Sometimes the left or right dipped beam goes off soon after or it burns longer or

5. While driving, go left or right or both go
Dipped beam off

6. While driving, the light switch has no effect.

7. When the vehicle is stopped, the dipped beam can be switched by switching the light switch
to be lit again (both).

8. This is repeated

9. Control unit and ignitor i.O? Gas is ignited Burner light up!

What is the interaction between the BSI BM34 burner and the xenon burner error information?

I hope someone can help me with this problem.

Thanks in advance

Ok, on the Mark I C5 these are Xenon discharge bulbs, they aren't Bi-Xenon, so only operate in dipped beam mode.

As for the intermittent cutting out - I suspect you have a Comms 2000 unit on the blink. This is the control module under the steering wheel that handles the auto lights, wipers, indicators and other lighting functions for example. It is a slave control unit to the main BSI. The Comms unit when they are on the blink can cause intermittent problems with the auto lights going on and off randomly. We had a similar situation on the C3 and had the module replaced to cure the problem.

The trouble in diagnosing this issue, is that it may not leave a fault code recorded (as it is intermittent), making it hard to diagnose - but if there are no other codes, then I suspect you need it replacing.

If you have used genuine OEM D2R bulbs (be aware of fakes) and changed both at the same time, then I don't think your issues is with the bulbs or the igniters - as once they are lit they then work at a lower voltage - the going on and off randomly or not switching off or on is symptomatic of a Comms unit failure.
