I've noticed over the last few....cold....mornings that my heater isn't getting as hot, as quickly, as it used to. I'm assuming it might be time for a new thermostat. Is it buried in the bowels of the engine bay, or a fairly easy job? Any recommends re where to source one....dealer or are aftermarket ones ok?

What's the VIN? There are several different 2.0 variants and they all seem to have different units - they are all complete units, however....

I'm sure I read somewhere that they have a supplmentary electric heater in the vent system to provide instantaneous warmness (to call it heat would be stretching it a bit !). Part number 643691 labelled as 'resistance' looks to be the candidate for mine - this isn't the same as p/n 6441S7 labelled as 'control module'. If it's rapid heating that you're missing out on now, you might want to delve further into the 'resistance' part. :)

Pete - have a squiz at my post here - look at part number 4 on the diagram - that is the heating resistance unit for rapid heating of the car. I think I've included access diagrams in the thread there too. This is assuming of course that you're concerned about heating shortly after starting and not when at normal operating temperature. :)

My VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]. Warm air does come out fairly quickly tbh, within around a minute or so if I drive off straight away from cold. It just doesn't seem to get as hot as it used to......its hot enough, but I'm sure it used to be hotter!

This is the part no for the thermostat, complete outlet housing on the end of the head; including the temp sensor.

Shouldn't be too hard to fit. If the stat is not working, then you should see a drop in running temp - need one on my 307 as it struggles to make 70 unless worked hard, and the heater is not very warm!!

Thanks for the part number. Just been Googling - fits a lot of cars, doesn't it! :shock: I should've added earlier that my temp gauge sometimes doesn't even show one bar, especially when its a cold day, so I think its definitely time for a new one!

Is there any special procedure for the swap does anyone know? Will I have to bleed the cooling system once its done?

Bleeding of the cooling system is done via the two bleed valves, one near the thermostat and the other near the bulkhead.
When I changed my coolant I opened both of these valves and added new coolant until it emerged at the first one, as it started trickling out I put the cap back on and sealed it. After adding a bit more coolant I did the same thing with the upper bleed valve.
