Citroen C5 exclusive Hd engine management light

Post by Davidcrofts »

My engine management light is on and I’m getting a message that the ‘depollution device is faulty’ . The car is running well. What’s the problem?

I see you managed to log in at last David, great. To start, can we have some key information on your C5, such as what year is it and specification, or better still the VIN number.

The depollution Fault, is indicative of am emissions fault. This can be related to the level of Eolys additive reamining in the additive tank if you have DPF system, the particle filter may be blocked if it hasn't been able to regenerate, or if it is at end of life may need replacing (or a deep clean). It could also relate to a blocked EGR valve or other fault.

It really needs to go on a Lexia / Diagbox and have the faults read, so that a directed diagnosis can start - otherwise we will be guessing.

Ok, so you have a MK I C5 5 Door Estate 2.2 HDi 136 with the HP20 Auto gearbox.

I've scoured the documents for this particular warning message and there is no specific mention of it.... Plenty of others concerning the Anti pollution Fault etc. Has the car gone into 'Limp Home Mode' or reduced performance mode yet? If it has, It will limit your revs ro about 2300 ish until the fault is fixed. If not, then youi really will need to get it diagnosed by Lexia to identify the fault codes - if you can get these back to us, then it will be easier to point you to the likely causes.

As there are so many components to the emissions system, it will be pure guesswork without the codes David.

Have a squiz at this post that has a list of owners with Lexias willing to help: Sennd them a provate message ot email, but bear in mind not all of them are currently active. There is also a map at the bottom showing the locations of members.

Thanks for that but I’m going to take it to a garage, apart from the above I again replaced the fan control and heat sink down near the peddles only 3 weeks ago and today haven’t got a fan again. This is quite ridiculous it surely must last longer than that.
